It's dated and was made for TV, so I wouldn't expect the same treatment as a movie since they had to frame scenes and arcs differently.

Charming, Curry carried a lot of the film. The directors admit they kinda fucked up with the ending.

the original It was bad. It has a handful of well-done scenes all of which involve pennywise in some way, every other scene is poorly acted boring trash. It was a tv-movie and it looks like one, cheap as fuck and lit like a sitcom.
It was scary when you were a child, laughable as an adult. Tim Curry is hilarious in this movie, and it's not a bad thing. As it's own thing it's a 6/10, as an adaptation of the book it's even lower.

The 10 year old kid behind me in the movie theater line the other day summed it up by saying It was his favourite horror flick. That being said, I liked a lot of horror movies as a kid that I can barely sit through now. I watched It again a few weeks ago for the first time in a while and it was okay, but pretty much on par with watching 6-7 episodes of Seinfeld back to back

A little bit of Nostalgia tinted glasses. Tim Curry is great as always and carries the show, and the first half is pretty solid, but the ultimate resolution is a wet fart.
Like other anons have mentioned it wasn't a theatrical release, it was a two part miniseries/movie of the week (remember when we had those?) so it suffers from a limited budget and having to be edited for early 90's television.
It's good. I personally like it, but if someone called it "shit" I wouldn't be the least bit confused or upset.

The 90s tv movie was bad as an adaptation. Although Tim Curry gave a legendary performance, it's not a good reflection of what the books Pennywise was. While Curry's was a charismatic quip machine, in the book he maybe made one joke towards Ben in the library. He spent the rest of his time tearing heads and arms of kids.

i was campy with a few gruesome scenes.
it was made for TV and it showed, the directions was all over the place and the script had a lot of problems. the special effects were good enough for the most part, while the clown makeup was good
as others pointed out, the first part was the better one and a rather successful horror movie, while the second part was poorly written and lacked suspense
without Tim Curry the movie would have been barely watchable as he had both intensity and campy humor. i can't image how this scene >>86462018 would have turned out with someone else playing the part

The lighting and the cinematography both sucked, as did the soundtrack. Instead of a horror movie feel, it had the look and feel of an after-school special.
