I didn't know Val Kilmer could act.
What are some other criminally unrecognized performances?
Another one that comes to mind is PSH in Charlie Wilson's War. I know he got nominated but still, it's like no one ever talks about how good that performance was either.
>>86439807
I hate Val Kilmer but Doc Holiday was his best role.
I love that character and he played it phenomenal.
>>86439807
>>86439849
why the fuck do you faggots hate Val Kilmer? he's a very decent and underrated actor
>The Doors
>Heat
>Top Secret
>The Salton Sea
>Top Gun
I bet I know why. Because you're both a bunch of capeshit faggots who spew NOT MUH BATMAN. Murder yourselves.
>>86439807
Yea Kilmer was great. Watson in The Bling Ring.
The movie's a little ridiculous, but he's good in The Saint
>>86439929
Nope. I had seen Heat and Prince of Eygpt but I had never seen Tombstone until yesterday. I was binging westerns, most suck so I was watching at 1.5x speed and his performance still hit me.
>>86440000
>I was binging westerns, most suck so I was watching at 1.5x speed and his performance still hit me.
My original command still stands: Murder yourself this instant.
>>86440037
just got off watching the searchers, shane, rio bravo, little big man. 90% of all of those are filler crap with no substance. They could all be 20 min. and be the exact same.
>>86439929
He sucks.
That's why I hate him.
But Doc Holiday redeemed him.
I love that character, he did an amazing job playing him.
>>86439807
Mickey Rourke losing the Oscar for his role in The Wrestler to Sean Penn in the forgettable Milk
>>86440097
Oh well I guess you have shit taste regardless. No helping you. Maybe a few more years.
>>86439807
This guy.
He had a brief stint where he played Jane's father in Breaking Bad.
Before that, I'd only seen his over-the-top performances as Q on STNG.
I was surprised with his depiction of the heartbroken father of a hopeless junkie. Hit me right in the feels.
The saint and Felon, with Felon being a hidden gem.
>>86440102
>He sucks.
Best performer in nearly every movie he's in.
>>86439975
That movie is terrible and basically destroyed his career
>>86440380
Island of Dr. Moreau plus drinking heavily did that.
>>86439807
Tombstone is my favorite movie of all time. Shits fucking insanely rewatchable
Alright.
Lets do this, lunger.
>>86440452
Say when
>>86440452
>>86441167
You're a daisy if you do.
>>86439929
He's been reputed to be an asshole and difficult to work with over his entire career.
Undeniably talented though.
>>86440452
This scene is fucking awesome but the music as soon as Johnny is shot is terrible and doesn't fit the scene at all.
>>86439807
PSH is underrated as a whole. If that fat fuck could have gotten off the horse he could have been an all time great.
>>86440128
That's purely because a lot of people in the industry hate Mickey Rourke.
Though I'm not sure how Sean Penn could be preferable as a human being to anyone. Rourke apparently burned a lot of bridges though.
>>86440398
This. He met the GOAT Brando who trolled the shit out of him and he couldn't handle it.
>>86441550
Penn got it because Harvey Milk is a hero in Hollywood.
>>86441313
>>86441167
>>86441396
He was just too high strung.
>>86439929
he's good in the saint as well.
>>86439929
He was excellent as Gay Perry too.
>>86439807
Tombstone is so gud. I really liked Michael Rooker in it as well
I feel like Dustin Hoffman's Hook was really fucking good, and I don't hear too many people bring it up.
>>86442091
Hook in general is really underrated, I always liked it and the hate it gets online really surprised me when I discovered internet and film forums.
>>86442091
One of my favourite over the top performances. It's perfect.
Hook also makes me think of Bob Hoskins whose role in Who Framed Roger Rabbit is spectacular and not really ever given much adulation.
>>86442395
Bob Hoskins was awesome in everything.
>>86439929
t. val
The Salton Sea is fucking amazing and totally unrecognized.
One of Vincent d'Onofrio's best performances too.
>>86442091
find out critics hated it and Steven says it's his worst film and won't watch it but fuck them are they wrong dumb critics said he didn't adapt it different at all
his best role was Summer Love/Dead Man's Bounty
>>86441573
How did Brando troll Kilmer?
>>86443614
Many different ways. Would constantly talk shit, he didn't learn his lines so he had them radioed into an ear piece which would often pick up random police chatter which he would repeat and most often they had trailer wars where one of them would refuse to emerge from their trailer until the other did. Brando once camped out in his trailer for 3 days leading Kilmer to have a melt down and the extras to have a drug fueled orgy while in their weird animal human hybrid costumes. Someone get the Brando copy pastas.
>>86441573
>This. He met the GOAT Brando who trolled the shit out of him and he couldn't handle it.
I wonder if Brandos objective was to turn Kilmer into his replacement. Sort of bizarre grooming for successor.
>>86439929
Felon
>>86439807
>Another one that comes to mind is PSH in Charlie Wilson's War. I know he got nominated but still, it's like no one ever talks about how good that performance was either.
That's because his great performance was in one of the most forgettable films in history. He fucking killed it though.
Even though Roger Sterling was in the right.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ_4m2ocxhI
That entire showdown was amazing in my opinion.
Its like the entire movie changed for the one scene, its a lot more beautiful and the sound design is better.
>>86440000
>I was watching at 1.5x speed
people actually do this? Thought it was a meme
>>86445776
Kilmer was going through a divorce and Brandon's daughter commited suicide. Since Brando had been with thousands of people he didn't really give a shit about Kilmers temper tantrums and blamed him for getting his friend fired as director.
>>86446758
DIGNIFIED
I thought Joaquin phoenix in the master was fucking amazing. Felt like I was legit watching a dude have a full on mental breakdown. Pretty underrated imo.
>>86448533
He's an undeniably good actor, he never takes trash roles and he despises the Hollywood system.
>Val Kilmer thread
>no mention of Real Genius
Plebs
>>86450920
Did nobody mention it?
>>86451014
Nope. There's no mention of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang either.
>>86445776
He got better but still look pretty rough.
Val Kilmer let his fame get to him. He never properly recovered from the Island of Doctor Monreu.
this movie destroyed hundreds of careers
Frankenheimer also reportedly clashed with Brando and the studio, who were concerned with the direction he was taking the film.[citation needed] According to Thewlis, "we all had different ideas of where it should go. I even ended up improvising some of the main scenes with Marlon."[citation needed] Thewlis went on to rewrite his character personally.[citation needed] The constant rewrites also got on Brando's nerves, and as on many previous productions, he refused to learn lines, so he was equipped with a small radio receiver, so that his assistant could feed his lines to him as he performed - a technique he'd used on earlier films.[citation needed] Thewlis recollects: "[Marlon would] be in the middle of a scene and suddenly he'd be picking up police messages and would repeat, 'There's a robbery at Woolworth's.'
LMAO

Nick Nolte in Affliction. GOAT performance. Movie is also great.
>>86443614
I remember Cary Elwes telling Brando stories when he worked as an assistant on some film but I don't know if it was that one
>hi mr. Brando my name is Cary
>no it's not, your name's Rocky, bring me apple pie or I don't come out
>>86444047
>he didn't learn his lines so he had them radioed into an ear piece which would often pick up random police chatter which he would repeat

>>86451225
He looks like a tranny now... but at least he's healthier, that's what matters. Hopefully he wont turn into late Brando

The scene with the pigeons is hilarious. Worth watching just for that.

>>86439807
The Saint, 1996 I believe. He was going to be the next Bond and that movie is cool af.
>>86439807
Are you implying PSH wasn't a great actor in general? What the fuck are you on?
>>86440000
>watching a certifiable kino like Tombstone at 1.5x speed
What a waste of digits.
>>86451225

Okay, shut the fuck up. None of you insufferable maggots could even qualify to touch Val's sweatsocks, and yet here you are trashing him. Keep it up, see what fucking happens. I'm not gonna tell you again. The weak have no voice.
>>86440000
Kilmer is honestly bretty gud in Prince of Egypt, that's a tough dual role to pull off as VA
I think Red Dragon had good performance from everyone in it.
Except the Hannibal himself
Channing Tatum's performance in Foxcatcher.
Everybody praised Steve Carell's performance just because of the heavy prostethics and completely overlooked the quality of Channing Tatum's character, so much non verbal communication with his portrayal, the entire opening sequence is him portraying his character's motivation and position in life without saying a single word, all through body language alone.
Never cared for him before so this was a big surprise for me.
>>86442091
>the hoff plays the owner of the theater that Barrie was going to show peter pan for the first time
>holds up a red captains uniform with a hook
>says "nope. never. I would never be seen dead in this thing"
its throwbacks like these that make me so happy

>>86461254
Agreed. But I guess in this kind of movies it's always mind over the body. The older actors who play the less athletic characters are always praised overshadowing the muscular young actors. It's a stereotype really
