>original mini series had god tier practical effects
>new movie will have godawful CGI

why the fuck can't horror be good again?
the original It was the pinnacle of horror movies and now the remake seems like it will be forgettable, maybe not "bad" but there won't be anything outstanding about it

>they used great practical effects
>>
>>86378034
and it will still look better than CGI
why? because it's real, you feel like you could just go there and touch it
same thing doesn't happen with CGI
>>
>>86378034
it was stop motion, how else would they have done this? literally squish tim curry into a 6 inch hole?
>>
>>86378391
could've used something that didn't look like complete trash.
>>
Except almost all of the effects we've seen so far have been practical.
>>
>>86378526
I think they were running low on money at this point, they didn't budget this series super well from what was said in the commentary.
>>

>>86378391
The stop motion didnt have to look like garbage though, that's hardly an excuse

>>

I have some questions.

What the fuck is going on with Stanley's hair back there?
What kind of gun is Bill holding?
WHat is that big ball of shit beside them?
>>
>>86377195
I haven't noticed any CGI in the new movie, unless we see some psychedelic ritual of chud shit or a giant spider I doubt there will be much CGI
>>
>>86378034
>GOD
>TIER
>>
>>86381017
I think it's supposed to be like a Jew-fro, because he's a Jew. I agree he doesn't look neat enough.
I'm assuming it's a pellet gun or paintball gun, which would be the more modern version of a slingshot.
Scary shit to make the set more visually interesting.
>>
>>86380961
Patrick Hockstetter?
>>
>>86381080
No there's like a chunk of it missing, like he's been wounded or it got ripped out.
>>
>>86381080

What, are they changing the time line of the original book? Is it taking place in modern time now?
>>
>>86381113
It's hard to tell from such a low quality shot, could be he just has a large forehead and it's a bad part.
>>
>>86377195
The practical vs cgi effects debate is retarded, the same way digital vs analog in music is. Both mediums have pros and cons, and are good when they're done well and bad when they're not. There's plenty of great cgi, and plenty of shit practical effects, quality is not tethered exclusively to one or the other.
>>
>>86381145
Kid's arc takes place in the 80s rather than the 50s, the adult arc will be 2016.

>>86381146
If I find a bigger pic I'll post it.
>>
>>86381145
Everything is 30 years up. 50s/80s is now 80s/Current.
>>
>>86381145
the 80s. I read the directors reasoning and I agree, he said that the original series played off fears of kids from the 50s and this new generation wont be scared by any creature from the black lagoon or care about any greasers and I agree. There was thought put into that decision, as much as it pains me to admit cuz I really liked the comfy feeling of 50s suburbia from the original.
>>
There's one really shitty CGI balloon in the trailer that I hope isn't the finished effect. Beyond that it looks alright.
>>
>>86377195
>I am a retard who feels the need to shill this made-for-tv low budget goofy pile of trash because I cannot let go of my nostalgia and I hate fun
>>
>>86381219
The other reasoning is they were "filming what they knew" and what they know best is the 80s. I'm alright with that, really.
>>
>>86381253
you're the one who sounds like you hate fun.
>>
>>86381298
yeah I think that's respectable. Will make it feel less stale and more authentic.

>>
>>86381192
>>86381215
>>86381219

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about this honestly. I guess I can sort of understand the reasoning, still kinda makes me sad.
>>
>>86381298
And there's nothing in the plot that necessarily requires it be in the 50s so it's not like the story has to be altered to make the timeline work. Just swap little things like the slingshot for a pelletgun/paintball gun/whatever that gun is.

>>
>>86381511
I wouldn't be surprised for the werewolf to get left in because they are pretty generic and pretty well known. But things like the Mummy and Creature from the Black Lagoon definitely would need to go.

new movie will be so suck

Im reading the script now
Its pretty brazy cuz It is just in the kids houses and likes fucking with them to scare them so they taste better and he can overpower them (since It is actually really weak unless they're afraid).

Like It just goes into their house and like into their bedrooms and trolls them all day. Like in that scene he has his brothers corpse and then he floods the basement and makes Will go into the basement and then he sock puppets the bros body and then jumps out like OOOGA BOOGA BOOGA STOOPID DOG and then Will runs away all scare and thats the whole point. sick sadistic childish shit to scare a child that the clown guy actually enjoys doing. hes like that tails gets trolled comic where bugs bunny acts all gay and retarded

I literally just finished watching the original It, it's better than I expected but at its core its a cheesy TV movie with one excellent performance at the center of it, and it you think it's the pinnacle of horror movies you don't know what you're talking about.

>>
>mfw I realize the miniseries came out in 1990 and the new film is coming out in 2017, creating a total difference of 27 years which is the same exact increment between Pennywise's murder sprees since he arrived on Earth

this film could actually be good. the runtime is 135 minutes which is pretty rare for horror, so the trailers can only capture a snippet of that and will obviously go for the shockiest moments. jump scares still sell movies
>>
>>86378034
this looks good to me, its fucking creepy to see in motion

that's kind of a tough one, where they hallucinate being in a prehistoric Derry and seeing It crash to the earth, with now extinct animals fleeing It's arrival. That'd be a lot of CGI.

It's also only the first half of the movie. It's going to be a duology. This first part is entirely focused on the children.

Just this part, the spider could be saved for part 2 where they have a bigger budget. It would be interesting if they implied IT's true form in this movie then reveal it in the sequel's climax.
>>
Did they include That Scene in the mini series?
>>
>>86387636
Oh right. I think that's also why it goes after kids in general- easier to influence. Guess that can backfire.
>>
>>86387762
No, it got mentioned in the commentary though.
>>
>>86387768
In general yes. If we want to get into the deeper bits of the King universe the kids were chosen by Gan and draw their power from The White.
>>
>>86387683
Having muscles makes it about as much more human as it makes it more frog. And usefulness is not what the form is about. IT is seen as a spider because that is the closest way we can imagine IT's true form. Furthermore, spiders are common in stephen king novels as being evil, representing demons and the crimson king. Never "driders", just spiders.

>>86387859
I think that's A spider, not THE spider we're thinking of.
>>
>>86387846
Demons are just fallen angels, and angels are based on God, and humans are based on God. If spiders represent demons then they also represent man, but spiders are already spiders so that means there's a hybridization going on - the spider is a drider. Kids have no reference point for imagining giant spiders. Why would they imagine it's true form as something for which they have no reference point? But every kid knows how to anthropomorphize. You think they had an arachnologist in the group that would elaborate on how a spider would scale? No!

In pic related you can clearly see human emotion and longing.

It is a drider because it has arms, muscles, and hands. Plus it's spider legs are even described/detailed as muscular. Spiders don't have muscles like that they have exoskeletons. I think we can give a pass for King, he's not a taxonomist.

>>86387021

no, not at all. with the town arranged like that, how was the dam backing up the storm drains? all the storm drains are downstream of the dam, and the solid sewage came in downstream of the dam, which is well, right through the damn city center. The Barrens would be downstream of the town to collect all the "grey water" from the storm drains and sinks and washing machines, the canal going through city center would be upstream of the barrens. If you put the Penobscot river in the lower left corner of the map so the Kenduskeag drains the opposite direction into it then it makes the map make sense.

Unless this is some situation where the kenduskeag is just one branch of the Penobscot flowing around Derry like an island and they meet back up but if the Kenduskeag is a tributary river then the whole map makes no sense.

I dunno, I always figured they were 2 different designs that did the same thing to help maintain water pressure. I know what you're thinking of though, the resevoir bulb up on like stilts as a water tower where a standpipe is on the ground and is just a cylinder. They always referred to the green colored cylinder styles in my small town as water towers though even though technically I guess they were standpipes. You'd have the town utilities/water board guys come into the school and warn people to not go exploring around them and tell some story about a kid who drowned in one etc. There was one near a park at the end of my block and we'd all heard the story about someone drowning in one of them so we avoided it they're just kinda spooky, I imagine that's why King put one in the book prominently, because they are kind of spooky and I'm sure every town has had some drunk or kid drown in one in their history.

abandoned condemned houses, train yards, sewers/canals, water towers/standpipes, warehouses, old factories (like the ironworks), those are all places kids are kind of scared of.

The other one is in the basement, first we see the excellent performance by Georgie's actor. You'll float too never has sounded more epically scary. And then Pennywise rises from the waters. it was "okay" I mean it was better than Jason Goes to Hell and as a serious movie Jason X (though Jason X is "so bad its good" territory and everyone understands that), and it had a few good kills. But they tried to explain away some of the unexplained tropes of the series such as how Jason moved around the area so quickly and how he was alerted to people being in the area with his network of viet cong tunnels and tripwires with little bells. Jason's offscreen teleports were better just left unexplained. (hell those unexplained tropes became the basis of his abilities in the asymmetric survival horror multiplayer Friday the 13th game they released this year, Jason can teleport around the map like nightcrawler and zoom up on people outrunning him like in the Evil Dead and sense people's fear)

While a kid might dream about Optimus Prime appearing to save the day they'd have to be super autistic to actually believe it. But for kids believing that silver bullets kill werewolves is easier.
>Pennywise can appear as Freddie, Michael Myers, or Jason right?
In the book in the 50s he appeared as horror movie characters the kids had seen an were afraid of, werewolf, frankenstien, mummy, creature from the black lagoon. So IT in the 80s would do the same with the new contemporary characters. If the movie does it or not would depend on if they have the rights to the characters and if they feel that using them might detract from the menacing nature of IT as we're so familiar with those characters it would really seem more parody to use them

The ending to the movie :
And each Loser steps up and confront It.
Throwing their torches at It -- letting go of their Fears --
causing It to retreat into the blackness. Until only Bill’s
Torch remains. In its flickering light, they catch the
faintest glimpses of Pennywise.
Circling around them.
PENNYWISE (O.S.)
A truce to be true. A deal to be
struck. Ignore this, forget me, and
I will let you all grow and thrive,
living happy lives until you die
happy deaths at age hundred and
one...
BILL
NO! No more...
Psssh! Bill’s TORCH extinguishes. Leaving the Losers huddled
in the darkness.
RICHIE
Maybe we should have at least
discussed the deal first...
THIN SHAFTS OF LIGHT appear. Like the sun shining through a
sewer grate, almost heavenly as they illuminate --
Georgie. In his rain slicker. Holding his Paper Boat.
GEORGIE
Let him go, Bill. He said I could
come back if you let him go...
Please, Bill...
Bill hesitates.
GEORGIE (CONT’D)
It’s really me, Bill. It’s Georgie.
He kept me here... You can take me
home... You can save me...
Bill unsure. So badly wants to believe.
BEVERLY (O.S.)
Bill.
He turns. Sees Beverly. With the rest of the Losers. He faces
back to Georgie. Holding his arms out to Bill: Hug me...
>>
>>86416323
BILL
I want you back more than anything
else...
Bill takes a step forward to Georgie. And he raises his arms.
But not too hug him because he has in his hands --
The Stunbolt.
BILL (CONT’D)
But you’re not Georgie...
Georgie turns to --
Pennywise. Razor teeth. Ready to lunge.
BLAM!
Stunbolt goes off.
Hits Pennywise right between the eyes.
His face RIPPLES, like a rock hitting the surface of a lake.
A CONCENTRICAL NIGHTMARE with petals of HORROR that BLOSSOM
then WITHER away. The history of Derry’s Fears flash and form
before their eyes, a thousand nightmares conjured by the
imaginations of Derry’s lost and eaten children. IT is wreath
of Screaming Hands. IT is the Rotting Flesh of Disease. IT is
the Fangs of a Predator. IT is a Crown of Bloody Thorns. IT
is the Floral Ring at Georgie’s Memorial soaked in blood. IT
is a Mouth That Screams Inside a Mouth That Screams Inside a
Mouth That Screams Inside.... IT is... IT is... IT is...
Until IT transforms back into a slithering, shapeless mass
and slinks its way back to the Well.
The Losers chase.
And as It disappears down to the bottom, we catch one last
glimpse of Pennywise’s Face. And he looks afraid. As the
Darkness brightens...
It isn’t.
And the Losers find themselves in the
BASEMENT
The seven of them.
Together.
In the corner of the basement, Bill spots a dirty, wet patch
of YELLOW. He walks over and pulls at it, revealing -
Georgie’s Rain Slicker.
Bill falls to his knees and starts to cry. Months of pent up
anger and grief, he lets it all out. The Other Losers walk
over and surround him, a circle of love and friendship.
