The writing is pretty bad right now.

- hear noise outside in their barn

And there we go. We've already introduced the new Lord Umber from the previous episode, so obviously they send it to Jon. And now they have three wights to send to Kings Landing. They can be explained as stragglers/spies that wandered south of the wall before the main army. And they don't have to do the whole expendables thing.

When they started the show he assured them book six would be done before they caught up, then they get a couple of seasons out of that and book seven is done in time for the last couple of seasons. They didnt know him, so they believed him.

I dont think they really started to panic till season four. If they had known from the start they were going to have to write the last 40% of the story themselves it probabaly would have been a lot better. By the point they realized it there were a lot of balls in the air that they didn't throw up there, and the show literally had to air next season.

This thread really has me thinking. Some of the events that have already taken place could have been easily slowed down to fit into 1 whole season while not coming off as filler. It doesn't really make sense when you consider that GoT is HBO's cashcow and they could have milked it for 10+ seasons easily.

I would've liked to see The Hound and brotherhood's adventures as they make their way towards the wall, showing off some of the old locations and seeing the affects the war/bolton uprising had on the North. You could kill of Thoros and/or Beric during this journey.

Arya's travels could have been stretched out too, with her reaching Winterfell by the end of the season, while struggling with her Stark/Nobody identity.

Euron should have never met with Cersei in the beginning. I'd have liked to see him enter the fray during the midpoint of the season with his surprise attack on the sneks. By the end of the season we see him at Lannisport with his fleet attacking Greyworm.

Melisandre has been useless and I don't even think she was needed at all. Same with Varys.
