What are some comfy Japanese daily life documentaries? Looking for something with architecture, mundane things, traditions, rice fields - comfy shit.

The Birth of Sake
Incredibly comfy documentary about the labor intensive process of making traditional Sake and the lives of the workers who must live on site for 6 months of the year to tend to their product.

Really beautiful cinematography, direction, use of music/editing, the only speaking is done by the workers themselves in the intermittent interviews

Only vaguely related OP, but Game Center CX. There are segments in most episodes where he goes off to a random place in the country to check out something local that was a "fan tip." It's insanely comfy and the best part of the show.

Basically a comedian going around taking in the local culture, playing arcades and usually losing at everything.

I love the comfy NHK documentaries they do about little minutia of Japanese life like bento boxes and the train system.

It varies a great deal. A poor village on the side of a mountain will be a bit dirtier but will still have a spectacular view.

There was this one in KERA about a japanese giy that hires actors or just himself to pretend to be the family of people. For instance one guy wanted to meet his girlfriend's dad and he pretended to be that cause she was embarresed of the real one. One girl has no friends so he hired actors to be her friends at her wedding so they wouldn't think she was a loser, they had to hire a whole family for her too

A 50 year old japanese guy who used to have a fair amount of wealth but got fucked in the asian crash of the 90's and now works as a part time postman/bill collector.
Also dates a 20 year old younger lady who's a bar entertainer/hostess and their relationship is mad shitty. Deals with their day to day struggles money/work/bosses/family etc.

It's a very objective view on the backside of the romantisized westen (weaboo) idea of the japanese society. Made by one guy with a camera and no manipulative use of music. Pretty good, but it's not exactly upbeat.
>>
>>86363847
A once successful businessmen lost everything when the economy crashed, and only survives because of his much younger girlfriend. He opens up the state of his life to this journalist, which is really rare for a Japanese person.

It gives insight into how Japanese companies crush the spirit of their employees, and the lives of the "working poor."

If you live in the UK and have sky tv, NHK is free on channel 507 plus it's hd. It has some of the best documentary's about mundane crafts and prefectures. Depends on the time of day.
Nearly every subject they go in depth on, it's cool and you realise how dumbed down and A.D.D based American and British tv is.
In fact t's free online too I think.

I watched a really comfy documentary about a mailman in Japan who lived in poverty with his waitress girlfriend who hated him and would whore herself out to wealthy businessmen in order to make ends meet so that they could pay rent on their tiny, one room, windowless apartment. The guy was successful in the past but fell on hard times and had to take a shitty soul crushing job that he hated so that he could slowly grind out the remaining years of his life amongst the tens of thousands of other salarymen that similarly hated their subhuman lives. In the end he bonded with his girlfriend's father over their similar bouts of erectile dysfunction thanks to the horrific living conditions of modern Japan. It was done by BBC I think.

Highly recommend if you can find it.

Not really a documentary, but there's a segment of a show you can find clips uploaded to on youtube called "Darts no Tabi" that's pretty comfy. It makes rural Japan seem very nice. Here's a description of it lifted from japantimes.

"Exchange is conducted a little closer to home on the popular variety series “Ichi-oku-nin no Daishitsumon! Waratte Koraete! (Questions for 100 million people! Try not to laugh!)” (Nippon TV, Wednesday, 7 p.m.), hosted by George Tokoro. With the purpose of “rediscovering the best traits of the Japanese people,” the show travels all over the archipelago, supposedly at random, in order to interview average people as they go about their daily routines.

The centerpiece of the show is a segment where Tokoro throws a dart at a large map of Japan. A video crew then travels by van to the city, town, or village struck by the dart and stops people on the street with the simple-but-complicated question, “What are you doing?” Months ago, this question was sometimes met with confused silence or even suspicion, but lately the notoriety of the show precedes the crew’s arrival, and they often get invited into people’s homes for tea and even full meals."

You can find it by searching "ダーツの旅" on youtube. Don't think there's any subs but some of it you can enjoy without.

hostess is fancy talk for, youre paid to sit with a businessman, have a few drinks, talk to him, flirt and most likely be asked to come back to his apartment for some more money which they often take up because:
1. they want the money badly because hostess pay is trash if you dont fuck
2.enjoy losing your job if you turn down men and they complain to the club

if you own a club, your hostess girls better FUCK or else enjoy any client worth anything going somewhere else

depends if your waifu is a cuckold but yeh basically, they have a wierd as fuck culture to do with various things

wives some what accept it because their husbands can work 12-15 hour days, everyday to make money for their family etc so letting him fuck some squealing thicc slut for a few hours on the weekend is a-ok

I'm not sure i'm ready for that

>spent 10 months working in Japan (Geotechnical engineer)
>spent another 2 months on "vacation" and travelling

I'd do it again in a heartbeat, i'm by no means a weeaboo but i fell in love with the surface level culture and my coworkers were great. I say surface level as i was not exposed to the traditional depressing "salaryman" life style.

Love watching documentaries about the place

obv im not a japanese business man but this is from what ive seen in various media and docu

for example you can go to a hostess club where youre LITERALLY sitting with a 15-18 year old chatting and flirting and for $100 you can fuck her

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04t0h2b

apart from the standard stacey dooley bullshit, interesting stuff

>Stacey discovers a culture where sexual images of young girls are widespread and used for commercial gain. Her first stop is a legal Tokyo ‘JK’ café in which high-school aged girls are paid to provide company to older men – who tell her that it is perfectly normal to talk about sex and hold hands with girls as young as 15 dressed in school uniform.

pretty sure she meets a girl under 18 who works at these places and also fucks them

Watch Sans Soleil. Not all of it is JPN but a great portion is. Marker is a master.

Not docs, but:

Are these actually worth it? I remember downloading both, jumped around a bit in one of them, and it looked pretty boring, camera shots too.

why white men that live in asia look like complete losers?

If you're looking for some nice comfy japanese slice of life, absolutely. They are very slow, so maybe you'll need to be in that kinda mindset when you watch them.

because they had to sell their souls to learn nip
not really joking, japanese isn't something you can really just pick up

I don't know I just got the vibe like it was some shoddy home-movie tier flick.

Yes it is.
Stop spreading this myth that it's some insurmountable challenge. It's just a language. It doesn't really take much to become conversational in any language.

What is that? That looks like some shitty chinese slum.

Glad no one recommended some shitty anime cartoons.

Reading this thread and I realize all I ever watched from Japan are fictional films and no documentary
