How scary is the ring anyway? This shit was always praised as a great horror movie when it aired. Is it?

You could also take a look at scandinavian or russian films, especially their dramas. For some reason they always slap blue filters on those

'Scary' is even more subjective than 'funny', asking if x is scary is a worthless question desu.
It does have a few jumpscares but it relies more on nice creepy atmosphere and imagery.
