I read somewhere that Jamie Foxx forced Michael Mann to change the ending of the film. Foxx had just won an Oscar for Ray so he was very cocky and he hated what Mann wanted to do with his character so he walked off set and refused to return until Mann gave into his demands.

Because as influential as it was it's shit. The acting is terrible and the story is awful. Every now and then there's just a sprinkle of gold and then it's promptly killed by the studio being cheap.
