Will you guys please stop pirating television and movies? You're killing the profit margins for studios. Lower profits mean smaller budgets for shows and movies. If it gets bad enough, entire studios could go out of business. Then you wouldn't have any shows or movies to watch.

>69% of young millennials use at least one form of video piracy
Yet, every year the film industry registers record revenue. Funny how that works.
It's almost as if piracy is a free promotion tool which garners interest.
It's also funny how the film industry has devolved into remakes, reboots and sequels in the last couple of decades, to the point where it's impossible to go watch something original to the theater. They want you to finance their fuckups and then ask for more.

Neoliberalism has seen the futures of most young people severely diminished. The 50 and 60 year olds tutting at those a few decades younger forget that they enjoyed much better salaries, cheaper housing, better job security. Late-stage capitalism is failing the young, it's not surprising to see it being rejected.
>>
>>86051644
No, because even LOOKING at CP is a crime. That's why forensic investigators use methods that avoid viewing the actual pictures in order to catch pedos.

Movies don't have this sort of legal protection.

How about instead of preaching to us about not pirating, you write to these studios and tell them to put out better content?
Original ideas, instead of remaking shit constantly
Tell them to stop backing whatever shit script comes their way, and invest in quality work?
Ask them to do better advertisement.... I never even hear about what's coming out unless it's another superhero movie or a remake anymore.
Piracy definitely does something to profits, but the lack of quality content is probably a bigger factor.

If you have a good script you can do a good movie with two guys talking in a room and it will be kino, or just work hard and save money until you can do it, as did the creator of Mad Max series to fund his movie. Cameras, mics and the shit that is really necessary to make a movie is cheap as fuck, moreso in the usa. Also, there are things like kickstarter that show that people REALLY are willing to spend money if they think a movie/show/videogame will be cool, but would not pay money for whatever cashgrab hollywood trows at them.

Late stage capitalism is overgrown with union and public sector tumours. Of course there are no good private sector jobs when government red tape makes it ridiculously difficult to open up your own business, grow a franchise, etc...

Don't forget progressive taxes, which somehow manage to fuck the middle class over the hardest despite being touted as a way to cap rich people's bank accounts.

>Baby Boomers turn capitalism from "good products and good service will get you more customers" into "fuck everyone and fuck the corpse to get every last nickel out of their lifeless body" with products meant to break so you buy more (also, outsourcing labor to cheaper countries, killing unions, and just generally turning companies to focus on stock market investors instead of customer service)
>Baby boomers tell their Millennial kids they HAVE to go to Baby Boomer run post-secondary education. giving them tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt
>Baby Boomers then don't hire the Millennials right away, instead making them do internships for free before hiring them to jobs that are paid (when adjusted for inflation) less than the Baby Boomers got out of college/Uni (IF they even went to post secondary, that's right, they could get jobs without a BA or MA)
>Baby Boomers then give those Millennials no job security (no more working for a company for 35 years so you can invest in long-term things like property), less health care, less benefits, and what little they legally have to give they skirt around by exploiting them as contract work instead of full-time employees

>>
>>86055133
This is the underlying problem with the movie industry.
Piracy is providing a service they refuse to provide.
The cheap "at home" experience right now.
If movies were dumped on Netflix the week they came out in theaters. Piracy would die tomorrow. But they won't because movie industry is trying to milk out every penny from the "premium" experience.
Problem is, they keep cutting back what the premium experience is, with more commercials, smaller seats, shittier experience. And home theaters/TVs are getting better making the cheap option so much closer to "premium" that people don't want to pay the difference.

A generation that was built on "traditional morals" and built companies and products to last. And paid living wages for their employees because "That was the right thing to do".

>>
>>86055972
under that logic Netflix would die immediately because everything on it is available online within hours. So why should anyone pay a monthly fee for something they can do already online?

The truth is in the middle

People want free, but they want convenience and to do things legally. If you make the bar of convenience so low that it's just easy to pay and do it legally, people will pay.

If digital rentals were priced competitively with Redbox, I would be a lot more likely to rent instead of pirating. But I can't be bothered to fuck with redbox, and I'm not paying $7 for a one time digital rental. $2-3 might make it worth the convenience of me not pirating something. Until then, these kikes can fuck off
>>
>>86055972
Most pirates would be willing to pay 1-3 dollars to see a movie they weren't even very interested in. I stream most new releases because I hate going to theaters, but I still have Netflix and get movies from Redbox.
This example is more /v/ related, but there was a huge piracy problem in Russia because there wasn't any convenient way for them to buy products. 80-90% of people would end up pirating, which would then cause companies to not release in Russia, and that made the piracy even worse. When shit like Steam started pushing the same level of service to them that other places were getting, piracy dropped down to the same level as everywhere else.
There will always be people who pirate for various reasons though.
>>

>>
>>86065770
>You mean back when trade unionism was actually a force in the American labour market?
They didn't have that much money and it didn't matter anyway.
America was the most productive country on earth.
If there were no unions, americans would have made exactly the same.
Why?
Because the working class consumes 99% of all consumer goods anyway.
If wages went down somehow, prices would simply be forced to adjust to those new wages.

The problem is that america has lost all of it's production thanks to central banker policies and government control.

>they didn't have that much power
They had enough power that the state and federal governments were tasked with breaking them up. The most infamous case being Reagan and his air controller shenanigans. Not to mention their retreat from the labour market parallels wage decline more closely than this gold standard bait and switch you are pulling.
>>
>>86066026
>Neoliberalism was a term literally developed by free market thinkers idiot.
So?
They weren't free market at all and if you had more than 2 brain cells you would understand that the current central bank dominated statist economy we are forced to live under has nothing to do with the free market.
Neoliberalism is not what we live under today.
Central banks are government, not free market.

My main point is that it wouldn't have mattered anyway because the USA was the most productive country on earth.

>The most infamous case being Reagan and his air controller shenanigans.
One of the most based things reagan did.

>decline more closely than this gold standard bait and switch you are pulling.
Except they don't.
This decline happened directly after we went off the gold standard.
In fact if we never got off the gold standard wages would be much higher than they are now and prices would be much lower.
You're just a bootlicking sychophant.

I wouldn't pirate if there were a reasonable way for me to bundle only the shows I want to watch and just pay for those. There needs to be more granular or a la carte cable/streaming plans.

I'm not going to pay for cable because I watch a few shows, Netflix/Hulu because I watch a few shows, HBO because I watch one show, Starz because I watch one show, and Showtime because I watch one show. The amount of money that represents versus how much I actually get from it is insane.

I do usually support shows I really like by buying the DVD/Bluray sets, when they're eventually released, but nobody wants to wait a year to watch the current season, and not be able to talk about it with anyone.

>go to the movies once every other month when a decent movie comes out
>haven't watched a new TV series since season one of GoT since they're all so terrible
>only watch older movies, documentaries, and rewatch old TV series
I mean, I can understand if you're a /v/ tourist who buys into the "if I support it they will keep making it" meme, but why shouls I pay money to watch Boston Legal, Seinfeld, Friends, Star Trek, Buffy, Fraiser, and other series that all ended 10+ years ago?

TV and Hollywood are basically shit. Even if there are 1 or 2 decent shows and movies every year, I could still live without them.

Why should I feel sorry for a Jewish circle-jerk losing a bit of profit? Most original cinema is produced on tight budgets and makes no money, in any case. With that latter category streaming and piracy actually open up the content to a much wider audience who would probably never see it otherwise, since such films are often doomed to play solely on the art-house cinema circuit.

What the fuck are you crying about? All that shit is just a myth. You know... like white genocide. There's no great number of people involved in some grand conspiracy to pirate shitty movies and tv shows because paying good money for shitty movies and tv shows is a ripoff and therefore unfair to the consumer and serves the industry right. Get real you tinfoil hat you.

Iraq, in a country where you can buy an ATGM off the market, pirating a movie isn't really a big deal
>>
You have to keep in mind how broad the definition for piracy is now

Inviting friends over to watch a movie is considered piracy legally
