It showed me a scene where qyburn used a ballista, from less than 100 feet, to pierce a dragon skull. It was the same size as a ballista, and the munition shot was the same size munition ballista use. From that distance, it proves nothing of new capability considering they haven't even tried using a ballista on the the target before. And even if it did, they have no reason to believe ballisa aren't capable of doing that without modification IF THEY HAD BALLISTA IN THE FIRST PLACE.

They didn't expect either of those things. They were clearly caught by surprise, the ballista was insurance just in case Danaerys made a surprise flyover, since her dragon moves much faster than any horse and she could go from Dragonstone to the Riverlands before any messages could reach Jamie's army.

Well no shit, the ballistae we had were not made to kill fucking dragons. The ones used in the past were made to break through enemy defensive positions. They were a lot heavier, while the one used in the show is meant to be light enough to fire a high-speed projectile hundreds of feet into the air to hit a fucking dragon. It's not rocket science. It's perfectly feasible that one person would be able to load and fire one of these things. In fact, they were probably made with the idea that one person would be forced to fire it because everyone else is lit on fucking fire and scattered on the battlefield and to ashes.
