>Hannah Montana: The Movie
Hadn't seen my kid sister in a while, and she wanted to watch this. Obviously terrible script, but the director makes increasingly odd decisions, like completely ignoring the timing of slapstick gags by having melancholy music play over them during a montage. Miley's performance is better than the movie deserves. The ending is a slap in the face that ignores the message of the whole story for a cheap sitcom status quo copout. 4.5/10

>Kuso
Often disgusting and hilarious, but in the end it's an assault of sketches, some better than others, that doesn't let you breathe. If you were to describe one moment from this film to somebody, it would seem like the craziest movie ever made, but watching the whole thing for an hour and a half, all the segments just kind of blend together. 5.5/10

>Prisoners
Immersive, dark mystery thriller. Good performances all around, and Deakins as DP is gorgeous. Most of the plot beats are interesting, but some of the whodunnit stuff is too unnecessarily complex for an otherwise straightforward motivation. Ending taken straight out of The Vanishing, but I liked the ambiguity of the final scene. 8/10

>Going Overboard
Wanted to watch a bad movie with friends thinking it would be fun. Big mistake. I've seen a lot of shit in my life, and this is probably the worst movie I have ever seen. Pre-SNL Adam Sandler rips off Woody Allen's comedic style while delivering a miserable, no laugh nightmare that feels 3 hours long. 0/10

>The Age of Innocence
90s Scorsese period drama about forbidden love and the struggle of finding personal fulfillment among the jeering eyes of an 18th century New York's social hierarchy, is a stunning masterpiece. Among Marty's best. 9.5/10

Fury Road
10/10, kinopocalyptic, I watch it every few weeks or months and always end up giddy. It still makes me want a home theatre set up.

Trainspotting
9/10, junkino. Forgot how energetic it was. Dat soundtrack too.

LEGO movie
7/10. Some great moments, the second act in general and Good Cop/Bad Cop are still hilarious, slow to start, and that ending is still fucking weird and should have been done metaphorically.

22 Jump Street
7/10. Meta comedy helped a bit for what would have been a pretty bland sequel otherwise

21 Jump Street
8/10, I didn't remember it being better than the sequel but based on genuine laughs it is better.

The Dark Tower was a very generic typical movie. However it had all the elements that those kinds of movies have - it had just enough of the typical movie script stuff to keep you interested...
I kept thinking that if the music was happier, this could have been a Disney movie or something. It was silly, it was stupid, it wasn't very good, but it was watchable.

Dunkirk was a boring snorefest. I was actually angry and bored the entire time I was watching it. I've never felt that way watching a movie. Yes, okay, it looks nice and everyone is really impressed that it was done on 70 mm... but he made a documentary, taking out the actual interesting things about documentaries. This movie is unwatchable for me.

Your points do have merit, but I think you're exaggerating a bit there. Both films were watchable, but The Dark Tower wasn't interesting. I found it confusing, contrived and it told the story incredibly poorly, things that Dunkirk managed to avoid.
I really find it hard to believe that you honestly thought Dunkirk was boring but The Dark Tower wasn't.

How did you find Dunkirk exciting? I hated it. The constant ticking clock was annoying. I knew he had it there to try to make you feel tension, but I was very aware of it... there was no tension. He kept trying to invent scenarios for the characters to get out of but it felt so artificial... like on the ship, in the marooned boat... and then there were just pointless scenes of Kenneth Branagh looking off into the distance wide eyed... no dialogue, no clues about what's happening or why, no plot, there's just nothing to this movie. It just tries to show what happened... as in a documentary, except documentaries have stuff that make them compelling and interesting. I found everything about this movie absolutely egregious. I was honestly very angry and had to force myself to sit through this. It was so fucking pointless and boring.

Rogue One was pretty fucking lame. Once I thought the term "fan fiction" I couldn't get it out of my head. Why is this stupid fucking backstory any more valid than some shit I could have come up with on my own? But there was some solid action and I liked parts.

The Void had a lot of wasted potential. Mainly didn't like the color correction, a pretty gross piss filter, which took me out of it. Along with some mediocre acting. I loved the practical effects though, reminded me of The Thing.

I Saw The Devil was fucking magnificent. A really clever exploration of the psychological effects and real-life ramifications of an obsession over revenge. I had a physical reaction to it towards the end, I felt sick. Powerful movie for sure.

Avenging Fists was just some goofy sci-fi action movie I watched with my buddy while we smoked weed. The fight scenes were well-directed and entertaining, but I hated the main actor and the story was pretty incoherent. Some real creativity went into it though, which I have to respect.

Beatriz at Dinner I saw in theaters with a friend. The entire time we were really baffled by the choices the filmmakers went with, at basically every turn. I liked that it went with a very dramatic ending, but the delivery of the message of the film was muddled with a lot of poorly executed bullshit. Salma Hayek is fucking banging as ever though, so that was nice.

You didn't like It Follows? What were your problems with it?

I thought it was pretty great, until you start thinking about the core conceit for like, more than 10 seconds. Then the whole movie falls apart. Also pretty unmemorable characters/mediocre actors. But the cinematography was pretty noteworthy and the score was impressive, and I got a little spooked here and there. Curious to hear why you disliked it.

Takeshi Kitano's first film as director. Before he was brought on, the script called for a comedy, and he turned it into a dark thriller to jumpstart his career as a serious actor. It worked wonderfully to me. The subtleties of his character are really fun to pick up on if you know some of his comedy schtick and the film is on the whole beautifully shot.
I had watched Sonatine and loved that and planned to skip his earlier films, but some anons convinced me that was a mistake.

>Detroit
9/10 fucking amazing acting from pretty much everyone except the main kid. didn't think he was all that but the movie tense from start to finish.
>Atomic Blonde
7/10. It was alright, but I expected a lot better. I liked that it was more of a spy thriller and not just stylish action. It was nice to see a female action star get the shit kicked out of her too. McAvoy is just a beast in this movie
>The Conjuring 2
8/10. Some scenes, like Lorraine's dream and the whole first hour of the movie were genuinely frightening, but the last act where they came back to save the girl from the Nun, not what I wanted to see from a horror movie. I wish it had ended more low key.
>Jason Bourne
7/10. Second time since I saw it in theaters last year. I liked it more this time since I knew what to expect, but it was still the most disappointing movie of 2016 for me. The plot I didn't really give a fuck about. Jason's dad, Jason was tricked into joining Treadstone... who cares? The score was mostly recycled and the shakeycam action was just a little too much, and I had no problem with Supremacy/Ultimatum. However, the acting was great from everyone. Damon was good as Bourne but it was the new actors that I really liked. Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, and Riz Ahmed were standouts. Tomb Raider was okay, I hope there's another sequel because Damon is too good as Bourne, and I want a new fucking score from John Powell not rehashed shit.

>9/10 music was great. Quotable, plus i love Nam movies
What're you favourite 'Nam films? I've just finished reading Chickenhawk after a couple of other first hand 'Nam books. I need more films to watch.
FMJ, Apocalypse Now, We Were Soldiers, Platoon, and The Deer Hunter were the last ones I remember watching.

It was pretty creepy with some legit disturbing scenes; they made a naked person slowly walking towards you seem way more threatening than it actually was. But it takes like an hour for the movie to get anywhere. Felt like by the time they set up the plot my suspension of disbelief was wearing thin. There was WAYYY to much exposition on the "Thing" but never a satisfying conclusion. It's like they couldn't decided if they wanted to explain what was happening or leave it ambiguous. This inconsistency defused the tension. The lack of tension is my main beef with this movie.

I'm not the guy you're replying to but this is pretty much spot on what I thought about that movie but couldn't put into words. Especially the lack of tension. The movie felt so determined to drone on and on at some points.
