Isn't "plotarmor" just "plot?" Why

Isn't "plotarmor" just "plot?"

Why don't you just complain about the plot of the show?
>>
Why don't you just kill yourself?
>>
because if you are a good writer you can construct situations where the hero is in peril and survives but not because of too contrived a situation that's obviously just there because they're a main character

e.g. the protagonist might go to prison but it is revealed when he visited the antagonist he took steps to frame him rather than just it's the end of the movie and we need a happy ending so he gets probation for an armed bank robbery for no reason

>Isn't "plotarmor" just "plot?"

No. They mean different things.

"Plot armor" is when somebody goes through an event that they should not be able to do so because the plot requires that they do so. Something like "protagonist has never seen a gun in real life before, but is attacked and picks up a gun and eliminated 10 trained assassins with it".

Plot Armor isn't justified either - if it turns out that the previously mentioned Protagonist is actually also a very well trained assassin but has amnesia then it's not plot armor, it's a TWEEST

Plot Armor:
>Rambo somehow never being hit by enemy gunfire despite not making any attempts to take cover or conceal or even make himself a difficult target in any way
>The Kraken in Pirates of the Carribean 2 destroys every ship nearly instantly except the one that has the main characters on it

Not Plot Armor:
>John McClane kills a bunch of terrorists/thieves with great difficulty and is severely injured in the process
>The characters on LOST survive improbable events because the island/Jacob is actively working to keep them alive

>protagonist has never seen a gun in real life before, but is attacked and picks up a gun and eliminated 10 trained assassins with it
You're thinking of real life. Movies are not real life. In a movie, an untrained civilian can pick up a gun and kill 10 firearm experts with it. This isn't because the writer is a hack, but because the movie isn't trying to explain the importance of firearm training. A character gaining a new ability is a visual representation of something like them finding resolve or gaining an insight. It is and isn't literal. People who cannot accept the existence of metaphors, symbolism and alike shouldn't watch or make films in the first place.

Hang yourself OP

That sounds like a plot to me. It doesn't sound like the character has some magic armor. You mix story with character elements and you get plot.

We are talking about a fantasy movie. It is literally ALL made up.

Why do you think that attributing odd events to characters merits its own term (with negative connotation)?
>>
>>85969931
Why wouldn't it?
Being fantasy isn't really excuse for repeatedly contrived circumstance even within the context of its own universe.
>>

Because Plot Armor, especially if it's bad, can break your immersion from a story.

It's one thing to go "and then the guy with no training, through wits and determination and a small bit of luck, was able to win the fight against the highly trained assassin" and another entirely to go "the guy with no training and no powers and armed with nothing but his fists defeated 500 soldiers in an open field"

OK, your quads convinced me of your stupid opinion
>>
>>85969765
Yes, that's exactly the line of reasoning a hack writer would use to justify plot armor.
>>
because its fucking easier to say than "the plot is protecting him"
>>

If you made a movie it would be really boring.

>coherent means boring

But dude, just turn your brain off, lmao

It's a millennials thing. See, millennials always need someone to die, because for some retarded reason, they've been raised to believe it makes good tv. It's literally the most overused plot device in television these days, yet they still circlejerk all over it, and get mad when a character is "on the show too long" by their addled estimation.

Why are people so concerned about potholes? Isn't it just plot?
