Watching TV shows and movies is a shit 'hobby' that most people do, and talking about them requires no real insight or knowledge, so the hurdle for conversation is non-existent. You don't need any real dedication to your interests, so the desire to talk about it seriously is at a minimum. In comes shitposting. So now the board has some dedication to shitposting and almost no dedication to actual discussion of TV or movies that aren't really popular with people that are commonly disliked here. The latter evidenced in how much effort is put in to telling people what they like is shit, effort that isn't really matched elsewhere. The jokes here are all memes that come from mockery because the posters here aren't really smart enough to do much else - which again comes from just how broad the 'hobby' of watching TV and movies is.

As well as the above, average people outside of 4chan see screenshots from here that highlight funny moments and want to be part of that. If you see a menu of the boards, what one is most likely to appeal to the majority of people looking at the boards? The one with Japanese video games, the one displaying drug usage and general boring nudity, or the one with comic book movies and Game of Thrones littering the front page?
