Tell me again why anyone gives a fuck about this glorified virtue signaling sham? Mel is kino incarnate and they can't handle it, fucking glorious
>>

Hardly the best.
>>

At the very least it's the best one in decades even though I disagree with you completely and believe this is in fact the best one

Too much action.

Ok buddy whatever you say lol.
>>
>>85935741
I've seen all the good war movies and I've never been as emotionally invested before. Usually when I watch a war movie I'm overwhelmed by cliches and the urge to laugh at dumb stuff, but this movie had me hooked and in tears by the end
>>
>>85935783
>emotionally invested before

No you weren't, you only made this thread as an excuse to shit talk jews. This entire movie was one cliche after another.
>>
>>85935564
They might as well have used yakkity sax as the music for the opening of the battle
>>
>>85935851
they were good cliches, it's impossible to avoid cliches in a war movie but if they're done well they work, and they were done well in this movie.

That's not even getting into the absoutely PERFECT pacing, not one useless scene in the entire movie

>>
>>85935954
He's right though
>>
>>85935564
Hacksaw Ridge was pretty typical conservative "art." Boring cliche after boring cliche and nothing that could pass for an original thought.
>>
>>85936015
Hate cunts like you that pretend to start discussion threads when really your only intent was to get people to bad mouth jews.

You're a fucking moron, this movie was 7.5/10 at best, your brain functions at a 2.5/10 at best. Have a nice day, better luck next time.
>>
>>85936028
your opinion is shit. After watching countless psuedo-intellectual wannabe philosophers trying to be "deep" over the last few decades, it's a breath of fresh air to see a movie with traditional morality and a good wholesome theme

Retard detected.

There are dozens of war movies that are better than Hacksaw Ridge. It was ignored by critics because it was hamfisted schlock.

First part is far too sweet, 2nd part overglorifies itself.

The story is hard to take for real to begin with, despite it actually being even more over the top in reality. But there's something about the presentation that screams "look at this insanely heroic, nice, brave and heroic guy!".

Don't get me wrong, love the movie and have always been a Gibson fan, but it's overcooked.

Pic unrelated.
>>
>>85935741

You're right, it had nothing to do with the plight of the Jude so it is trash. Please cite all the WW2 movies in the past twenty years that are better than Hacksaw Ridge.

>>
>>85935564
It wasn't about the holocaust

It was about white men being heroic, which Hollywood is against.
>>
>>85936462
You're the one crying to "the best ww2 film ever".
The battle was riddled with unrealistic slapstick nonsense. Sure, the movie started out strong, but that doesn't absolve it of its preposterous, ultra-violent, tone-deaf, climax.
>>
>>85936579
I've seen all of those and I think hacksaw ridge is superior to all of them. Only one that comes close is Letters From Iwo Jima, the others are thoroughly outclassed and it doesn't even seem fair because hacksaw is like a perfect culmination of decades of war movies and it had the hindsight of those movies having already been made.
>>
You're projecting your own biases. Also since you can't whine about Mel Gibson being "blacklisted" anymore, instead of admitting you were wrong, you just backpedaled to the Oscars. And no, it isn't even close to being the best WW2 movie. I doubt that's even your taste, you're just a right wing SJW so you have some ideological obligation to claim a Mel Gibson movie is dabest.
>>
>>85936649
>muh war movie isn't realistic

You're right, war movies should consistent of 6 hours of standing around in a trench, followed by sporadic gunfire for 5 minutes and then another 6 hours of shitting in a hole, because that would be a realistic fun movie to watch
>>
>>85936644
Well since 99.99% of white men are blatantly evil Hollywood's position is pretty understandable.
>>
>>85935564
Sincerely, this was not a good movie.

>>85936015
The cliches were not done well. They followed the same path as every other version of the same series of events in every other movie.

>>85936086
Traditional morality and a wholesome theme do not a good movie make. Those were not the problems with the film, the problems were with how they tackled those themes and how poorly fleshed out they were.

>>85935968
The action scenes lacked any unique qualities, they felt b-tier but with impressive effects. The direction was so stale that Gibson literally did the same shots over and over again. The Bansai charge was fine, but it was nothing compared to the one in The Thin Red Line which actually had some inventive aspects to it. Hacksaw's action scenes were unrealistic even compared to the very chaotic unbelievable action that actually took place on that island.
>>
>>85936644
>It was about white men being heroic, which Hollywood is against.

Hollywood is against something that most of its movies are about? What's your diagnosis?
>>
>>85936672
>I've seen all of those and I think hacksaw ridge is superior to all of them.

Well you're wrong and all the critics agree that you're wrong. No need to get butthurt about it. You just like incredibly cliche "emotional" movies. It's like females that like The Notebook.

There was just too much unnecessary and uninteresting backstory. We get constant flashbacks of family issues we've seen millions of times and a flimsy lovestory that was cringe 90% of the time.

Its only saving grace was its action scenes. Nevertheless, the action was still riddled with ridiculous, improbable, and at times, comical moments that made the entire final act feel like a joke.

Ex: The way the protagonist saved his sergeant.
When the protagonist kick away a grenade

The flimsy romance, cliché flashbacks, bland characters, and ridiculous moments in the action scenes just make this film a disappointment to what one would expect from Mel Gibson.
>>
>>85938566

It's ridiculous but he really did try to kick a grenade away. I think it was a dud or something.
>>
>>85935564
Nobody has given a fuck about the Oscars for a long time.
>>
Even Captain America: The First Avenger was a better WW2 movie than Hacksaw Ridge.
>>
Its 6/10 AT BEST, stupid underaged
>>
>>85936905

That's the problem, plebs see as "look at this hero!, go america", but in the context of the movie is to show how much different was desmond from smitty

also the japanese war scenes aren't there to show how the war looked, it's literally christian kino about the descendance to hell and later redemption and salvation from desmond

this is obviously too hard on the plebs that like saving private ryan (which ironically is just a glorified american war movie)
>>
>>85938566
Actually in real life he stepped on the granade, it exploded and shraplened his foot. He survived and continued to serve as medic.

I think the point is that war is goofy and surreal, but its also always hell.

Literally best WW2 movie for long time and best movie of 2016
