have heard only good things about this but I'm 20 mins in and its corny and cliched as ever living fuck
is it deliberately leading me into a false sense of security before dropping me right into awesome battlefield brutality ... or should I just turn if off now (before they have a fucking 80s-style training montage or some shit)?
the first 40 minutes are shit but the last half of the movie is top tier
Stick it out. It goes 0 to 100 real fucking quick about halfway through.

You're going to -LOVE- Army of Darkness:World War 2 version.
Keep watching.

The actual battle scenes are good, literally everything else is paint-by-numbers and completely skippable
Keep watching faggot.

Even the battles are corny, washed-out war movie fare. It feels like that one about POWs that Angelina Jolie did, which feels like any other generic war film aping saving private Ryan.
I guess the only thing people held onto was the main character's convictions and the sideplot romance going on. It's competent, but doesn't do anything new or engage the viewer in a meaningful way.
And the first bit with the training camp is bad, yeah. Vince Vaughn is terrible throughout.

Don't worry. I thought it was going to be a military court movie, untill......

Don't listen to this person. The whole movie is barely above "okay". In no way does the action presented later make up for the shit beginning. This movie's source material warrants a much better movie than what is shown.
Andrew Garfield was awkward in this film.
But I think the character he played was supposed to be an awkward guy.
I also watched Braveheart after this.
