Only half decent explanation I can think of is that they overlooked doing so because they didn't think Dany was likely to intercept the lannister army so they only brought the ballista just incase and didn't bother or think to poison the bolts.

If the kings landing ballistas also aren't poisoned then that will be garbage writing.

That said you would need a lot of poison to bring down something about as big as a whale.

and you'd need that much for every bolt.

Remember this is the middle ages and production isn't that easy.

My post was related to the theory that Jaime is Azor Ahai. His story lines up with a bunch of shit in the prophecies for both Azor Ahai and Valonqar. Apparently the Valyrian words for "Lord of Light" are literally one letter off from actually meaning "Hand of Gold" or "Golden Hand". Martin's made the point thta prophecies get fucked over the years through mistranslations and shit. So it's possible all the Azor Ahai prophecy stuff about the Lord of Light is actually referring to Jaime. Like I said, his story lines up pretty well with the prophecy and the idea right now is that he'll complete the last step of the prophecy when he kills Cersei. There's book passages too. Some guy made a pretty solid post on plebbit about it a couple months back that i read not too long ago. What poison works on dragons? I can understand what you mean in that it helps but theres a few things to consider: You ahve no idea what dragon DNA is like and what poisons will ahve a chance at working on it. You have to harvest all the ingredients for all this poison you want to make that might not work. You have to carry around poison that oculd be lethal to people just so you can put it on your bolts that might hit a giatn death machine. What happens to said poison if it gets incinerated? Will it create a toxic cloud that fucks up the infantry nearby? Does it explode? What if the bolt misses and lands in a river or plains? What effect does it have on the water supply or earth? Would you be willing to coat those botls in poison if misses meant you could poison your cities water supply?

Its just too dangerous.

They were on their way to King's Landing, which is pretty close to Dragonstone. Based Tarly already told them that the gold was already in KL and that the rest of the column only needed until night to get it delievered. If Dany set out the d ay before she might have been able to catch them, assuming a scout/spy had told her of the Lannisters movements. That could also explain why she attacked what could be assumed as the back of the caravan, afraid to go too close to Kigns Landing.

The only real major issue is how does she ferry all those Dothraki to the main land? That would have taken much longer.
