Battleship had conquistador aliens, though unfortunately that movie was an absolute mess. It did do one or two interesting things though, the alien power armor was pretty cool, and the alien they're able to capture is this ridiculous super soldier but the idea was that he was so tough because he was part of an alien equivalent of the special forces, not because their species were actually significantly more powerful than humans.

That version is always plausible, because it's basically how humans would do it, if we were the spacefaring species discovering another inhabited planet. Most normalfags dont want to go to a movie dealing with the actual consequences presented in such a scenario and if it is then the aliens will probably look human ro reflect the audiences need to feel good about being human. Its basically lazy writing while also tapping into the basic need people have in believing that being human is something special. Imagine if those lizard aliens in the first oats short were actually really articulate and not a bunch of screaming raptors.
