Why are there almost no good horror comedies? There's a very thin line between the two genres and the closest I've seen to anything come close is The Eric Andre Show.
>>
>>85856557
David Lynch stuff has several comedy/horror elements that occur at the same time.

like so...

that scene made be chuckle prolly the hardest i've done in a year.

this is great too but has spoilers for the show Twin Peaks season 3.

I considering mentioning Twin Peaks, but I wasn't sure if some of that would count as comedy (I was thinking of season one and two).

The Return comes close, as does Blue Velvet.

These, Shawn of the Dead/Hot Fuzz, Beetlejuice, What We Do in the Shadows, and Army of Darkness are the only good ones that come to mind. But, yea. There should be more.

>>85857281
Was that movie actually any good or are most of the good reviews a product of white guilt?

What We Do in the Shadows is amazing, but not scary.
Shaun of the Dead isn't scary.
Hot Fuzz isn't even horror.
And I don't remember Army of Darkness being scary either.

You can't do both at the same time. Laughing diffuses tension.

Yeah the first season was the best I think. Genuinely disturbing and hilarious. Patton Oswalt is great in it which is why he's not a cuck in my book.
>>
I think the problem is that horror and comedy are the two shittiest genres.

They're both so easy to fuck up. There are very few great comedies and very few great horror films.
>>
>>85857655
I don't think the point of horror comedies are to actually be scary. Because if that's the case, there are no horror comedies, since none of them are truly scary. If they were, they'd just be horror films. They're just comedies with horror plots.

I still think Hot fuzz is horror though. Maybe more murder/mystery, but it was basically horror by the end.
>>
>>85858146
More thriller than horror, and still barely.
>They're just comedies with horror plots.
That's what I'm saying. There are almost no good horror comedies because almost none of them are actually scary. I think horror and comedy are very similar genres but no one's did it right yet.

Does anybody remember the name of this movie. Its from the early 2000s and it was about a group of people vacationing in a cabin in the woods and getting infected with a virus that turned them into zombies. It was hilarious but also had some scary moments. One of the best horror comedies Ive seen but the name escapes me

Horror is the opposite of comedy so I don't get why you think it should be a thing that's churned out.
>>
>>85864084
How? A lot of things that are funny can also be horrifying. And both genres rely on eliciting a strong emotional response.
>>
>>85864223
Having cheap jokes to relieve the fear ruins it. You're either watching a horror or too scared and want a watered down version of neither.

Evil Dead 2, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Cabin in the Woods. Really depends on your tolerances as well, there are a lot of comedy horror flicks that are pretty low budget and really go for the weirdness or the comedy with gore, but often lack production values.

On that end you can try Feartown, USA which is funny but not scary. Same people made The Slashening which is ok.

I really like Astron-6, Father's Day is amazing. The Editor is great.

What we Do in the Shadows, Slither.

I know I'm forgetting some of the lower budget stuff. Troma releases, but doesn't make, some decent stuff.

How could they not be cheap if they are out of place in a movie which sole reason is to strike fear into the human psyche?
It just means they can't do the horror part so resort to fruity slapstick trash.

Dude, this fucking movie. If you want to see the performance of a lifetime, watch Deiter Laser become a nazi prison warden who yells every single word of broken english he says at full volme, sing children's lullabies as he castrates people (also yelled at full volume), and eats fried clitorises because they give him ancient power.

The best part is, every other actor seems genuinely terrified and confused at everything this guy does, so it makes it that much more amazing. Just looking at this guy's outsretched veiny turtle face makes me wanna grit my teeth. It also gets really fucking racist which is always fun.

These are all comedy horror movies, OP asked for horror comedy, pretty big difference. Horror comedy is stuff that borders on genuinely disturbing while being funny and absurd at the same time, stuff like Eric Andre or Tim and Eric. It's a really bizarre fucking genre and I can only take so much of it at a time before I go mental, it mostly just makes you feel nervous and uncomfortable, and sometimes a little disgusted. Like I couldn't eat a meal and watch Tim and Eric, fuuuck that.
>>
>>85867594

Just find some best-of videos on youtube, or just watch one or two episodes to get an idea of it, it operates on its own wavelength. If you don't get anything out of that "public access" aesthetic then you probably won't like it because that's like the cornerstone of the show's style.

It's like falling in and out of sleep as you lay on a couch with public access TV in the background, melding with your dreams. The stilted public access stuff gets mixed in with your darkest, most bizarre thoughts, and just when you get a grasp on things you get the rug pulled out from under you with the next skit.

Horror is a hack genre. Not to say their aren't great horror movies/artists, just that hacks tend to gravitate towards it because it seems simple on the surface. A retard watches a horror film and says to himself "hey! I can do that! Jump scares, spooky tunes, and gore. Got it!"
