When I was a kid I liked him because he was cool and did ridiculous shit and his pranks were great. Little boys love him but in the Simpsons family Homer and Abe are arguably the funny ones and as >>85786486 said it was more his behaviour that was funny and the fact that he was dumb and had no self awareness/didn't give a fuck when it came to socially acceptable behaviour.
