>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, Whittaker 13th Doctor) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

WE need more entries for classic as well as NuWho Doctors. Entries for Thirteen are accepted as well. Aug 10th is deadline

I'm through 3 episodes of Broadchurch series and oh god it's courtkino. Moments in the actual court are REALLY tense and are really well-structured.
Fuck whoever told me Broadchurch series 2 is boring because no mystery lmao. Court stuff is really great and makes you care.
By the way, why 'no mystery'?
1) Will Joe be proved guilty or not?
2) Who killed girls in Sandbrooke and what are bluebells?

Are those not mysteries?

I'm liking it except for directing. Direction fucked up since series 1, a lot of blurry focus tricks which doesnt work and overall feels cheaper for some reason.

I also liked series 2 a lot, I'm not British but I've been involved in something similar before and it rang very true to me, the endless minutiae and frustration when the justice system doesn't live up to the name. S2 was rushed and didn't have enough time to get developed properly the way S1 and S3 did but I still like the core of it a lot.

Private trackers sound great but also tricky - the range of content seems great but I imagine ratios are hard to hold up sometimes. I was in What.CD back when that was around but the upload speeds where I live are bloody terrible so I couldn't really traditionally seed to any useful degree (luckily I had some hard to find CDs). Private movie~TV trackers sound like they have great libraries of content but I imagine I wouldn't be able to keep up a decent ratio, so a dream they'll remain for me I suppose.

Speaking of torrents, there's like no active bluray torrents for some of the Christmas specials, it's quite annoying.

Gallifrey stuff doesn't have to be dull. Classic Who never explored it to the extent that it could've - there's still a lot we don't know about Gallifrey, or many things that we do know but could never be shown as their best with the Classic Who budget or special effects of the time. But admittedly, you're right - there'd have to be good reason to explore it to any great degree.

Anyways, I liked Hell Bent as is, and I'm happy with it as the finale to S9 as it was. I don't actually have a real problem with it, I just wish Clara had stopped travelling with the Doctor around the end of S8. It's not that I dislike her, but I think that certain fans who've been particularly vicious in their dedication to her began to embitter to me to her character. That, and now that I pay attention to her pathological lying, it becomes painfully apparent in its constancy, and especially so when she's hypocritical about it. I think I would've liked her a lot more if it wasn't for those aspects of her character, but then that introduces the problem that if she didn't have these flaws, she'd be Mary Sue-like, and that'd be a whole issue in itself. So, basically: Hell Bent was good, and I enjoyed it, but based on my perception of Clara as a character, I personally don't believe that Clara deserved that level of dedication from the Doctor. I know he cared for her a great deal and the whole idea of their increasingly toxic relationship was that Clara could do whatever the fuck she wanted, and the Doctor wouldn't give up on her... but that just makes me sad for the Doctor, because he gave his all for her and at times, she never really seemed to appreciate that to the extent that she should've.

ANYWAY, WHATEVER, my whole fucken point is: I don't hate Hell Bent, I'm chill with it as it is (albeit with some hesitancy over certain character things) but also, Gallifrey could be cool under the right circumstances.

I figure I had to explain how I felt about the ep, just because I know it's rather controversial in general. As is Clara as a companion. I have mixed feelings about her, and although sometimes I wish certain episodes (like Hell Bent) were different from how they truly were, I still enjoy them as is, because no amount of yelling will change the form in which they aired.

In the end, it's all just subjective, really. Nobody's going to feel the same way about every episode or character or story arc, and that's alright. One person's Love & Monsters is another person's Heaven Sent, y'know? Except not, because nobody fucking likes Love & Monsters.
>>
>>85648190
Hell Bent Defense Force is fucking weak today, bloody hell.
>moff never promised you an epic return to gallifrey episode. all that came from you.
Legit assumptions. I never asked or expected some epic adventure that would reaffirm and return Gallifrey to the canon. All the came from is me is what came from everyone: "Holy shit, he is returning to Gallifrey and he's super fucking pissed. Can't wait"

>have you actually seen the invasion of time? arc of infinity? do you understand why RTD used the time war?
Do any of those suddenly make Moffat's writing in HB better? No? Then who cares.

>>85648229
>All you are crying and whining about is that the episode wasn't about what you wanted it to be about
Assumptions again. I'm crying and whining because Hell Bent is a mess of an episode and a great waste of potential. It's essentially Let's Kill Hitler in larger scale.

>you literally haven't made a single point about why the episode is "bad" beyond REEEEEEEE IT WASNT W-W-W-WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE :'( :'( :'(

ofc it still isnt an essay. when you adapt a book into a movie, the movie isnt literally a book as well, its a movie. when you read out an essay, your speech doesnt magically become an essay itself, it is you reading out an essay. the essay remains the written text. because thats what the essay is.

its not like the angels from flesh and stone. the image of an angel becomes an angel, but in real life that doesnt happen, things stick to the mediums they are. you can adapt them to transform them, but that is ADPATING.

again this doesnt matter because an essay isnt magically good or anything, there are plenty of terrible essays. calling a youtube video an essay sounds insecure to me, thats just my personal view and could be wrong, because it sounds like its leeching off another term as if that term makes it sound different than it is. a video cannot be an essay. you can film a person reading an essay. that video is not an essay. its a video OF a person READING an essay.

this part of your post is built on assumptions and wrong analogy and doesnt answer anything

>when you adapt a book into a movie, the movie isnt literally a book as well, its a movie.

what's the adaptation of books has
to do with this
movie adaptation isnt reading book out loud filmed on camera - that would be your analogy if you tried

>when you read out an essay, your speech doesnt magically become an essay itself, it is you reading out an essay.
why? it's literally written text being read out load. does a book stops being a book if it's read out load? when you read a newspaper out load you invent a new genre for this? you wont just say it's a newspaper article read out loud?

> the essay remains the written text.

Considering how much money he's paid to write the show I think he owed the audience a decent episode and a decent resolution to the series. Clara's arc was done. the book doesn't change what it is. but soundwaves coming out a person's mouth isn't a book. and a video of someone reading out an essay doesn't become an essay.

>you wont just say it's a newspaper article read out loud?
the "out loud" thing is the whole point. a video cannot be an essay. there's a whole term for it, video essay, that even includes the word essay, why not just use that? a video can be a video essay, or an essay read out loud. it can't be an essay itself.

Dude I literally just refuted your points. You keep insisting that it's because of some hype that I had and that I'm not willing to admit, I'm just asking if that's all that you have to say about why is it good. You're the one blowing this out of proportion and making a huge mess out of it.
>REEEEE THAT IS TOTALLY IRRELEVANT TO A GALLIFREY STORY POSSIBLY BEING DULL REEEEEEEEE MUH ENTITLEMENT
How can you take that from what I said? The point is that it doesn't matter if Gallifrey was boring in the past, it doesn't matter that Moffat tried to make something interesting out of it if the writing was shit. Concepts always lose to execution. If someone sounds salty and insecure here it's you.
But fine, calm down a bit, I'm not insulting you personally or anything. Here goes:
Hell Bent has 3 main problems. Bad structure, rushed plotpoints and nonsensical shit.
Basically everything that happens is an excuse to put Clara in her TARDIS and finish the Doctor's almost era-long character arc of being a good man or not, with an extra tragic ending to make us all cry.
The problem comes in how the story goes from one point to the next, it's all done extremely rushed and the audience isn't given much time to take things in. Maybe if this was a two-parter Moff would have extra time to properly develop things, but as it stands the viewer has to quickly get a billion different explanations and concepts immediately, as The Doctor darts from one part of the desperate plan to the next. I genuinely believe that Moffat thought up of moments first and then developed a story around it, because it doesn't really mesh well. A dramatic moment after dramatic moment after explanation on the hybrid after running down some corridors after impactful phrases that aren't really needed after after, we aren't given much room to breathe.

you are being stubborn again
essay and video essay are so different things in their nature so that you had to argue with me about that for 20 minutes instead of just admitting that other people are right

wow essay out load isnt the same thing as essay! because essay is words and essay out loud is words out loud! thus they are different and thus video isnt essay! because it's out loud!

Alright, so for nonsensical shit (which just helps my "thought up of set pieces first" theory):
Moff has to rely on a lot of technobabble for moments to happen, and not the usual good stuff he makes.
Me has to give the dodgiest and out-of-nowhere explanation as to why she's alive at the end of the universe, The Hybrid is discussed endlessly with no point in sight, Clara bullshits her way with the sonic shades in probably the most shameful moment of Moffat's sci-fi writing career, the entire thing with the Chronolock is BEGGING for more development, etc...
Because that's secondary to the story, these things are there to get to eventual character moments and work on the basic point of Hell Bent:
"A man that's uncertain of his own morality is driven beyond his limits and has to do drastic things to save someone he loves".
Two problems with this: We are totally on the Doctor's side, so the most shocking stuff like shooting a man so hard he turns into a woman and generally acting like a dick doesn't really effect us. We've seen the Doctor do worse, actually.
At the same time the story itself is on the Doctor's side and makes him to be a tragic figure with a bad turn of fate, he doesn't fall totally by his own immoral actions, Gallifrey is just filled with assholes that don't deserve saving. Sure, it's a bit of a shame to see the hopeful Doctor actually say that, but that's the point of this whole episode.

In the end after some convoluted writing. The Doctor tragically loses the memory of the woman he so desperately loved, but in that beautiful bittersweet that only Moffat can do, he still fondly remembers travelling with her. He still remembers loving her.
So, who is the hybrid? Doesn't matter, our time was wasted and this shit didn't even need to exist.
But is the Doctor a good man? Above all else, he is.
Damn shame we had to go through so much shit to get there.

I just bought the rare Colin Baker regeneration figure.

You won't find this anywhere unless you search hard on ebay and it's very pricey.

You saying you don't like to collect figures of your favourite characters? Especially if they are very rare.

Unfortunately my version doesn't come with the box because I got outbid on that one. Wasn't gonna spend $200

>The reason Colin Baker's Doctor was written to be vold and dangerous in nature with his mood swings was because the writers were planning to have him eventually become very warm hearted. Due to Colin being fired, we never got to see him become this warm hearted that was originally intended
This makes me really sad. We could have had a really nice scene where one of his companions is in danger and we see the Doctor crying his eyes out or something for them to be saved. Would have been great acting for Colin because he is a great actor but unfortunately he got skrewed over badly.

At least we have his Big Finish audio dramas to enjoy on what he should have been on screen.

Okay yeah they did use the 5th Doctor's body when they made this 6th regeneration unfortunately but still with the dirt design it is great.

I don't think they ever officially made a 7th regeneration. Only fan made.

Remember that the 11th doctor figure set has the 6th doctor in his terror of the vervoids costume (yellow tie/cravat) and if you wanna buy 6th separetly he is in his first season cravat (blue tie/cravat) so I have no idea where someone would find 6th in his red trial costume here to make this head swap

Yes. But there are several people who found Hell Bent to be quality.

That isn't an answer to your complaint, though. Because what you're saying is that Moffat owed you an episode about Gallifrey. That's why it's entitlement--it's not about quality, it's about what you wanted to see . Which isn't necessarily wrong--I would have liked to see a Gallifrey-centric ep as well! But don't confuse what you wanted with what's quality.
