wasn't just a skit, it was an entire episode. he basically caused an entire country to go insane over an episode of a satirical television show.

he basically paved the way for post-ironic humour

if it wasn't for him the majority of "good" comedy around wouldn't exist but the pioneers lead with arrows in their back and he's an unsung hero of comedy
