Mostly just from historical and contextual use of the phrase "colored person" being used demeaningly, so minorities re-phrased and rebranded it to "person of color" which doesn't carry the same contextual weight behind it and thus isn't as offensive. Nonetheless I think both phrases are stupid and pretty much play into the white supremacist/white centric view that there are 2 types of people, white people then all the other "people of color".
