This I definitely agree with. If they had any degree of dignity they would have just finished 6 in his memory with his brother and shit, and then just ended the franchise.

The problem is that hack writers think that making a character gay can only be done by shoving it in the audience's face and by making this the most important trait they have. This kind of character writing is awful and it puts me off despite not having bad feelings towards gays. Having someone's sexual orientation be the most important thing about them leads only to a bland character since the only case this would work is that character is a hooker, stripper or anything of the sort.

There are well written characters who also happen to be gay. Defoe's character in Boondock Saints is a great first example, there's literally only one scene that shows him being gay, otherwise his sexual orientation is an untouched subject. Another excelent portrayal was Benedict Cucumbersnatch in Tinker, Soldier, Spy, where him being gay was kept as a surprise that went against the rest of his character's actions in the movie. And just like in Boondock Saints, it's also covered in a single scene. Both of these examples show that you can write good gay characters as long as them being gay isn't the main focus and the only trait they have been given by their writers.

These tumblr rebbit fags think that character building should revolve in checking boxes, like a movie needs to have x gays, y trans, z disabled and this is why we get this kind of hack writing. They make gay characters for no other reason than to virtue signal how (((woke))) they are, and I feel that's detrimental to the character, regardless of how one would feel about homosexuality.

Characters should be written in a way that makes sense. People in real life have a combination of traits that fit like a puzzle, each piece supporting the other and having logical links between one another. So when writing for film or tv you have to make a really reduced version of a real person [otherwise you're in for a movie that'll need tens and tens of hours to fully cover that character] that still respects this model. "Joe is a car mechanic, he's a nice guy and helps his friends and once he saw a man get murdered on the street by the mob, now he's on the run BY THE WAY HE'S GAY" is embarrassing writing but entirely predictable in today's Hollywod.
