This miniseries was pretty good and all but it was also severely frustrating because the creator wanted us to feel sorry for the junkies who are quite honestly human garbage. The husband was alright if a little sappy and hopeless but the mother and son were malignant cunts who did nothing but drag him and themselves down, ESPECIALLY the mother who proceeded to ruin everything good her husband gave her because she was a worthless junkie bitch. Also, the Schindler's List scenes were shoehorned as fuck.

However, it is a very strong miniseries and I recommend it, especially if you were fans of The Wire.

Stop being god damned capeshit loving infants and talk about this show. Talk about junkies. Talk about heroin. Talk about niggers. DO SOMETHING god dammit.

At least it's not a Dr. Who general.

It's a good series desu senpai, but u you shouldn't expect this board to talk about deeper topics anymore. It's gone to shit

You don't mention that it was created by David Simon. It's basically a first draft of The Wire with many of the same actors. If you love The Wire, watch it. If you haven't seen The Wire, watch that before this. If you are lukewarm about The Wire then skip it.
>>
>>85495619
Yeah of course that goes without saying. Junkie cripped Fat Curt (Lester Freamon) was the best character.
>>
It was good, I like realistic dramas that don't try to paint heroin addicts as innocent people with a disease who'd never do anything wrong.

I might have to watch it again, it's been probably ten years. I always like the character of Lester but he was a meme by the end with his muh true poe-lease and moralizing. Never thought they got enough of the actor or character.

I think what makes The Corner a lot stronger than The Wire is that it doesn't focus on the cops at all. The cops are there and you can glean quite a bit from the characters they show (the older guy who is getting transferred and how he tells the corner guys that they're going to miss him). Cedric Daniels was also quite despicable in this show too. I really wanted him to OD and die, unlike Fat Curt who was a waste of life but seemed like a nice person all things considered. I also remember Sydnor in the show too as one of DeAndre's corner friends.

Francine and DeAndre were my most hated characters though. As I said, the shit they put Gary through made my skin crawl. Poor bastard.

It's not good. Just like Treme. It's just social misery porn with a pseudo-documentary tone and not much more. You can tell it was done by journalists rather than artists, what made The Wire so great is Simon brought in his social issues insight while also hiring renowned novelists to balance him out with ambitious storytelling and genre appeal. If you've seen The Wire, it doesn't add anything, it just feels like a first draft, and multiple scenes and overall character arcs and archetypes were reused in The Wire (Bubbles, the kids from S4). Still an interesting curiosity for Simon fans but I wouldn't recommend it.

>It's not good.
That's just not true. As a character drama it is basically flawless. You quite literally are bringing up the genre elements of The Wire as the main reason it was worth watching (mentioning "renowned novelists" gave you away). Sorry there wasn't enough OMAR COMIN for you, seriously. The fact that The Corner didn't include such gimmicky bullshit (and only having one nigger cowboy gunfight) makes it head and shoulders above The Wire, along with Treme.

No it's just following a family of junkies who never learn anything. It's dull and boring. You could just read the book or watch a documentary or go to your local corner to smoke some crack and you'll have the same experience, I don't expect art to be about "real life". The western references in The Wire are made by storytellers who understand the meaning behind them, the artistic tradition of examining the violence deeply rooted in American civilization. Ford and Peckinpah had gunfights but they also had clear insight on human nature and social themes, told through the lens of mythological, bigger-than-life stories. Omar's mythological aura culminating in him getting shot from behind by a nobody like Jesse James, having legends on the streets about having had a more heroic death told by kids who glorify the ghetto violence, but also being so irrelevant that he gets a wrong nametag at the morgue and gets forgotten by the cops who knew him, etc. is far more appealing AND profound than anything happening in The Corner.

What's funny btw is Omar was also based on a local criminal Simon was following (the multiple-stories jump, "Spider-man shit" you would think is gimmicky, Simon says 100% happened IRL to this guy, as well as other outlandish Omar moments), got married to the junkie mother from The Corner, since Simon introduced the two. Omar really is no more gimmicky than the characters from The Corner.

it provides a human face/story to inner city predicament shitting. If you're a Simon fan, you'll watch it all. If you're not, you probably won't.

It is a rough draft of The Wire and a lot of the pacing just isn't there. its a good story focused on a few central characters. If you were a theatre major, I'm sure you do do a lot with the character studies.

Treme was similar to The Wire and those writers juggled a ton of issues and statements, that by season 4 became disjointed because of how many writers were producing the episodes.

Hahaha yeah right anything about an inevitability is boring. MUH CHARACTERS NEED TO LEARN A LESSON! I guess all Greek tragedy is boring, I guess Shakespearean tragedy is boring. You are a child with childish sensibilities, hence your comparisons of what is really just a TV drama to cinematic masters Sam Peckinpah and John Ford, like it was supposed to instantly win your argument. Waxing poetic about the death of OMAR COMIN, Christ almighty. George Pelacanos is a page turner dime store genre writer. David Simon quite literally is the main reason why The Wire is a cultural masterpiece, and The Corner is even better than that. The docudrama device in The Corner is brilliant, and they objectively failed to replicate in The Wire because they included those nigger cowboy gunfights courtesy of your childish Hollywood sensibilities that crave character arcs and drama. You tell me to go watch a documentary? A documentary wouldn't capture the perfect moments in the main family's life that showcase their absolute downfall. David Simon made what could have been a drab, detached documentary into a hyper-realistic drama. Opening your beginning post with "It's not good" quite literally says it all: You are a simpleton, who craves violence and Hollywood genre trappings. Goodbye loser.
