No. Movie theaters have been running 4k digitial projectors for a few years now, and even that is only approximating the quality of actual film.

35mm = 2k to 6k
IMAX film = 12K

Digital IMAX is shit and is reserved for those small IMAX screens you find in malls and stuff. Modern digital projectors don't cut it, but IMAX laser projectors are getting closer to simulating the 12K experience of real IMAX.

So no, closeups should be no different. Unless we are talking 4k porn of course.

What Hollywood could fuck up is if they go overboard on removing "grain" from older filmstock and filter the fuck out of the detail if they mistakenly believe that 4K owners want crystal clear images. This was occasionally a problem at 1080P as retards wanted "grain free HD" and you end up with pic related. Something similar could happen to 4k transfers if they rush and do them wrong.

Another problem is that Nacho libre is not available on 4k so the BD (or god forbid a DVD) was upscaled. You get ghosting and other visual errors that make the movie look "not quite right". it takes a team of talented people hundreds of thousands of dollars to properly do 4k and make it look as good as the original film. A simple chip in your TV cannot possibly handle this and still look passable.

Similar problems come when 24fps content is converted to 60fps by hardware. It always looks like shit, especially any CGI. Overall everything seems unnatural as fuck.

Over a decade ago people were making the same claim over 1080p ruining the careers of actresses over 35. "you can see every pore and all the makeup flaws. They are finished". It is bullshit.

40 years ago 35mm cameras were easily capable of capturing unflattering facial flaws or makeup mistakes in a close up. Film makers have relied on skilled makeup artists and proper lighting for over a century and they know how to do close-ups right.
