I'm currently watching SG1 for the first time again since it first aired and I'm really blown away how good it is when compared to all other modern sci-fi shows. SG1 is totally in a different league, even from the very first episode in.

I'd also like to add that people always say that 2-8 are the best seasons but so far s1 is a lot better than s3 (I'm at episode 16). S3 seems very weak so far.

You might want to put stargate in the thread title. /TV fucking love Stargate, and usually fills a whole thread.
Season 3 is okay but that's when it starts picking up, a lot of World building that will pay off later starts here too.

3-5 are the preferred seasons. 1-2 had a way lower budget leading to a lot of running around in the woods, and while there was some plot it didn't really start moving until season 3. 6-8 are still great but definitely have a more generic style after they switched networks from showtime to sci-fi. I like 9-10 but a lot of people don't because it was supposed to end at 8 so they had to come up with new villains and O'Neil is gone.

back then main characters could be female but there wasn't an artificial media war being waged around that. nobody was marketing buffy (or Stargate Atlantis or whatever) by shoving it in your face yelling YEAH WE HAVE A WOMAN INCHARGE BET YOU DONT LIKE THAT LITTLE BOYS WHATCHA GONNA DO ARE YOU GONNA CRY YOU VIRGIN? because they had a good product and people were responding well to that, and that was enough. nowadays you don't have to bother making something good, you just guilt trip people into watching it by making it all about identity politics

I mean, the question we really need to ask is whether or not being in the body of a child gives you the sexual impulses and attraction to those of your own age, or whether the component is neurologically or physiologically triggered.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2117556/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15811068

After some light reading of the articles above, it appears evident that while both play a role, the hormonal (gonadal) component is key in producing the arousal.

I believe that with this in mind, we could theorise that although Jack would initially expect his traditional neurological attraction to adults, the lack of hormonal response from his body would confuse the brain. I believe that over time, as the chemical changes occur in his body to experience sexual arousal for the "first time", his brain would adapt to the new responses, eventually leading to a conditioning of his arousal toward those of a similar age to his body.

In summary, by the end of his transition I would not consider his sexual feelings to be Paedophilia.

I am so fucking jealous. Yeah except that is a bad example. The Asgard had hundreds of thousands of years of tech development and they handed it over to us allowing us to bridge the gap with more advanced species, easily.

It's not on par with Ancients but it easily bumps us up half way. Shit by SGU we're literally deconstructing and repairing a early-to mid seedship.

We did all of this in less than 20 years. We go from getting solo-flexed by one pyramid ship and some death gliders, and probably a single battalion of jaffa to wiping out collective group of system lords, all the uber ones. Taking out Stargates equivilant of the borg, who are probably more dangerous than the borg. I mean replicators survived sitting in a blackhole, and eating the entire asgard race who had millions of years on them.

So replicators got smoked, twice. Their original form in pegasus galaxy, their new models in ours. Wraith, Goold, Retu, Lets be honest Lucian Alliance would have been next. ORI.(Evil Ancients.) Lets see. Asurans/Ashen. Oh the evil asgard on sga.

The list goes on and on. All less than 20 years. We did all of that. It's retarded.
>>

I still don't understand how the Ancients could lose against the Wraith.

They probably didn't fully commit themselves until they had fifty trillion wraith crawling up their ass. By then it didn't matter how many they killed more just kept coming. Mass cloning is a hell of a weapon.
>>
>>85495068

Disease and ascension cut the Ancient race down to a tiny number of people, which is why they were seeding other galaxies in the first place.

So they only had a small number of fully crewed ships versus wraith who were using cloning and mass production.

Why they never built fleets without using A.I which they could easily do could have equaled their numbers easily.

>When it was over it felt like that period of tv died forever.

Because a period sort of did end, after Stargate ended TV shifted more towards these 8-10 episode season shit series where there is basically 0 universe building. Shows of those eras had 20+ episodes a season and all those "filler" episodes built up races, planets, technology and make the universe feel whole.

Now you get 8 episode seasons with nothing but main arc shit and the universe feels empty or non-existent. They're more like 8 hour TV movies stretched over 6 months.

Sgu on the other hand, its its own thing. Personally, around the end of season 1, I was into it. Had real potential but they killed it. I like to imagine Eli never fixed his pod, panicked and went nuts eating, drinking and wasting power, leaving everyone else to die in the void.

>>
>>85497659

>>
>>85497544
I think it's nearly impossible nowadays. People are trained into these different kind of series we have today.
SG has many fillers and world building, people don't seem to care so much about that anymore and need a fast story with constant drama and or action.
>>
>>85497659
Honestly I agree with the other anon, they have to enjoy at least the first half of the movie, the idea of the gate, the first foray to a new world etc.

From there it's easy for McGuyver to carry most people into the show. It's hard to try and skip to the good seasons because they lose track of all the world building done in the early seasons with Teal'c, Apophis and the death of Ra.
>>
>>85479023
Very disappointed in how the new "show" is being handled. Kind of broke my heart. I will give it a try of course.

I guess I should be happy since I have 10 seasons of SG-1 and 5 of Atlantis. SGU was okay as well but hurts because no conclusion. SG-1 and Atlantis are the only TV shows out there where I can watch almost every single episode dozens of times. There are no un-watchable episodes for me and they all have infinite re-watchability

If you rewatch the pilot for SGA, they said seeded 'life' I don't think they seeded ancient life on all of those worlds. I think those were ordinary humans still present when SGA team gets there.

Like dakara in milky way. Ancients did not breed very fast bro.

Ancients are reason human life is found in so many different galaxies, but those were ancient variety for all purposes we'll call those Mark 1 variant.

Milky way got hit with disease and they couldn't stop it which is why they left. Variant 2 got seeded in pegasus, they're like us bro, not advanced version of them.

They were undermanned day 1 against the wraith, they had super tech not numbers.
>>
>>85499266
I haven't seen it, but I've heard The Expanse is good. It's definitely a similar type of show to BSG.
>>
>>85498296
Because they're above them.
Didn't stop them completely either, they'd either rebuild themselves or a bigger bug would eat the scraps and shit out more of them.
>>
>>85499416
Atlantis leaves Earth several million years ago. They go to Pegasus, and seed human life.

10,000 years ago they encounter the Wraith, and after warring with them for 100 years, the Ancients abandon Pegasus, sink Atlantis, and return to Earth.

That means the Ancients were living in Pegasus for several million years. I'm not talking about the humans they seeded, I'm talking about the Ancients themselves. That is a LONG ass time in which to rebuild your population.

I'm not saying they had equal numbers to the Wraith; they didn't. But they weren't a tiny population either. They had multiple planetary populations throughout the galaxy. It's just that the Wraith got fuckhuge after they hooked up some ZPMs to their cloning facilities.

Is Stargate a dead franchise?

It seems like the fans suddenly stopped existing around 2010 or so. Like completely wiped from existence. If there were millions of fans they could easily justify a new TV show. Yet I feel like it's hundreds of thousands at best. It's so damn niche.
