He made the best move possible, but did so for pussy reasons.

Yara brought it on herself, doing nothing but humiliating and shaming Theon for what happened to him. He was so far gone that he refused to be rescued, and she didn't stop to to think that maybe she shouldn't reopen those old wounds for laughs. When the big moment came where circumstances touched a nerve, the "Reek" was still too strong. Yara should've been a better sister and helped bury "Reek" a long time ago.

Regardless, it was the best decision even if it was made for the wrong reasons. There was no winning in that situation. Euron would've killed Yara anyway just to spite Theon, even if Theon managed to kill Euron (which he wouldn't have) he'd just get killed by the other ironborn, the only thing he could've hoped to do was trade Yara's life and his own for Euron's. Jumping overboard spared Yara's life and gives Theon the opportunity to fight another day.
