>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -
>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?
If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.
/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.
There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).
>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)
Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, Whittaker 13th Doctor) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho
We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)
BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.
WE need more entries for classic as well as NuWho Doctors. Entries for Thirteen are accepted as well. Aug 3rd is deadline

The problem is that they're not inherently evil. And having an alien species around that relies on being mind-controlled by an evil force will wear off very fast.
That said, I'd love just one more original Ood story. One of the more iconic NuWho creatures.
Did Big Finish ever do an Ood story?
>>85422560
>implying her other grandmother is not a grandfather now
>>85422570
The Ood we're such a cool way to bridge meta-who and who together. The fact that they knew about all the events and them singing vale Decem to 10 is kino as fuck
Here's a list of Doctors that still need stories:
First Doctor
Second Doctor
Third Doctor
Fourth Doctor
Sixth Doctor
Tenth Doctor
Kris Marshall Doctor with Anri Okata companion
Morbius Doctor fics
More Thirteenth Doctor stories would be nice as well

I've wanted Paterson Joseph ever since Tennant was leaving. Apparently he did auditions as well. Maybe one day.
People like to name Idris Elba, but he's way too big in Hollywood now, and although he's a great actor, I only ever seem to see him playing angry.

>RTD does a 'we use a lot of alien prosthetics episode'
>all the aliens are memorable and have cool names
>Moffat does a 'we use a lot of alien prosthetics episode'

>>85422727
Bitch, does anybody remember these guys from the End of the World?
>>85422570
>they're not inherently evil
What we need now is a story that subverts expectations by having an Ood that is a piece of shit and evil. Making the Ood a more complex race like the Silurians or the Ice Warriors would certainly make them more interesting than the fugly dogooders they are now.

Showrunners always read through and change every single script with a rare exceptions

You're all cucks and the rest of /tv/ hates you
>>85422954
But /who/ is mainly redditors who love the decision.
>>85422978
Fuck off you dumb cunt. You're comparing an RTD-written episode with one that Moffat didn't write, nor one that he outlined. RTD's era had a fucking gigantic slew of trash episodes in it and you know it.

>>85422955
I literally only remember the face of boe from that episode and that's probably because he reoccurs in later episodes

Why not have an episode where the Ood have become a spacefaring race, but their actions have unintentionally caused some havoc for other aliens. But they held onto their origin as an oppressed species for so long that they just don't conceive of the idea of themselves doing any wrong. And the Doctor has to teach them about the concepts of guilt and self-awareness.

Giv good Who.
It's a good thing Chibnall is taking over, because if Moffat was writing Jodie's first lines, the sequence would go something like this.
>12: I can't stop running away from death. Everyone has to change, even if I don't like it. I keep moving. I keep running. Because you know what? I'm the Doctor...
>Capaldi regenerates and turns into Whittaker. She looks down at her new female body and is slightly surprised.
>13: ...But probably not the one I was expecting.
alright fellas, back from the shops and now i can finish s2 rewatch with sushi. /comfy/ squad is here
>>85422727
Unless I'm completely misremembering, none of the characters from The Rings of Akhaten were part the lotsa aliens. They were a background fixture and were not really given any time to be memorable. I remember that dog lady who had a couple lines, but I do remember the Face of Boe, the Moxx of Balhoon, the Adherents of the Repeated Meme, the Trees, and the blue steward guy from The End of the World.
How many of you faggots are from Reddit?
The lot of you don't fit well with the chan culture.
>>85423226
You're comparing a shit episode from the Moffat era that wasn't written by Moffat to a decent episode from the RTD era that was written by RTD. But both eras have their fair share of shit episodes, you are just cherrypicking two from both sides to form your argument. I'm just illustrating the bullshit of your comparison anon.
do you think chibbers is going to do the "doctor can't fly the tardis after regenerating and crashes somewhere" meme?

Is Love and Monsters the ultimate pleb filter?
Plebs claim this to be worst episode of all times just because there's no Doctor and Abzarbaloff design, although this episode has more emotional message and substance than all of 7B put together.
>>85423050
That would be cool.
What are some examples of Moffat "messing with continuity"?
This seems to be a common complaint and I can't seem to think of any such instances.

It's been such a long time since I watched The End of Time, but was it ever explained how the Ood became some sort of civilisation that could look into the future and had like a Grand Ood they all followed? Maybe there's some space for an episode there, showing their evolution after 10 and Donna set them free on their home planet.
>>85422869
I like the idea of a rogue, maverick Ood who turns his back on his species's serene and peaceful nature, maybe gathers up some like-minded Ood and starts some shit.
Good brainstorming, /who/. I knew I couldn't be the only one who thought the Ood have been underused lately. Waste of a great original NuWho monster.

Not him, but it's fairly well known that it's common practice for the showrunner to outline every episode with some major points, even if they don't write them.
I remember Toby Whithouse talking about The God Complex saying that Moffat wanted the episode to "feature some kind of endless, 1980's hotel reminiscent of The Shining", "living ventriloquist dolls" and "a Minotaur". That's sounds like one of the first assignments you get on a Creative Writing Course or something.
I believe Whithouse added the "each hotel door holds the greatest fear for certain inhabitants of the hotel" thing, but he basically got "80's hotel/dolls/random fucking Minotaur" and had to roll with it.
>>85423717
for a simpleton, sure
>>85423377
Eh to be honest, looking back on it now, it had some interesting stuff. A group of humans forming a club about the legendary Doctor. Marc Warren's character had an interesting backstory, what with seeing his dead parents on the floor and seeing the Doctor there, the Shadow People or something being responsible. The dialogue was funny, nice to see Jackie again.
I still think it was a huge mistake to run a "design your own DW monster" competition, and a huge disappointment that the best thing that came out of that competition was a 9-year-old's drawing of the Abzorbaloff. Peter Kay was terrible too.
All in all it doesn't deserve all the downright hate it gets, but it's not a very good episode. Most of that hate is better spent on the following Fear Her which might just be the single worst episode of NuWho.
>>85423507
>First Doctor chose TARDIS Clara proposed him to on Gallifrey
>Doctor is what he is because Clara delivered a speech to him when he was a child
I cannot fathom why Moffat thought this was a good idea. I mean, they're both terrible to begin with, but giving both of those hugely important parts of the show to a single companion is just going too far. Clara will go down in history as one of the cutest companions, but also one of the companions who got way, waaay too much important lore-building/altering stuff to do.
biggest issue with the RTD era is the fact that half the fucking lines are voice overs in post.

>Most of that hate is better spent on the following Fear Her which might just be the single worst episode of NuWho.
I don't even remember this episode enough to pass judgment I think. 2012 Olympics, jellyfish alien befriends confused child and somehow gives her the power to bring alive drawings. Think her dad used to beat her so she drew him in her closet and he starts to come alive or something. Then Tennant saves the day by carrying the Olympic Torch to the stadium.
It's very obvious that L&M and Fear Her were rushed filler episodes now that we know there were some very different episodes planned for S2 that got cut at the last minute for budget reasons. Both episode clearly were low-budget and quickly-written. Anyone have a link to that site with all the episode ideas that go cut in the end?

>"I took something that didn't belong to me."

I like Jodie but this is just too exploitable for the anti-woman/Jodie group.
On the subject, any fan trailers out yet that feature Jodie's voice from various roles? Like the Malcolm Tucker one that turned up about a day after Capaldi's announcement.
>>85424719
To be honest, if I was 9 years old and a drawing I made got turned into a Doctor Who monster I'd be over the fucking moon, even if they did shrink him down. I still stick by what I said about it being a mistake to hand your villain designs over to a bunch of 9-year-olds, but I have to show some humanity and admit it was kind of a cute idea and opportunity.
However, we all know the result now and we all know why they never did it ever again.

jenna a cute!
>>85423257
Your vision is weirdly optimistic. If it was Moffat writing Jodie's first scene she'd be running around grabbing her tits and screaming about how she's a woman now.
>>85425592
Sure, but there's precedents of titles using a working title before they decide on the eventual real title. I guess that's not really an argument seeing as they could easily edit a different title into the title sequence, but still, I hardly believe they'd be working on the title sequence before any actual filming has begun.
The titles need to convey the feel of the show, and seeing as the feel of the show is very likely to change, I'd think it more likely that they'd work on the visuals after they know all the scripts, titles, arcs etc.
I mean, if you want to indulge this guy to pass the time like with Chumbley, go ahead, sorry to spoil your fun. I just think it's highly unlikely.
Every time I feel sad I just remember how certain Marshallfags were that he would be 13 and I piss myself laughing.

I was sure it was going to be him. It just seemed to make sense to me. However when Jodie pulled back that hood I wasn't even disappointed. They finally managed to genuinely surprise me with a new Doctor reveal and I instantly started thinking about the possibilities for the show.
That feeling of surprise at seeing the new Doctor is something great. It wasn't like with Matt Smith randomly appearing mid-Confidential. It wasn't like Capaldi, who soared to the bookies top hours before that dreadful "reveal show". I actually managed to be surprised and I think that's a great thing, and very rare for someone who's always looking for DW news on internet.
You make out like those who were rooting for Marshall are now in some kind of support group, but on the day of the reveal the /who/ polls had Marshall and Whittaker on 50/50. I hardly think "Marshallfags" went away, tears in their eyes. I think most of us adapted rather quickly.

It was just a great feeling to have. That moment of complete surprise. Even though I scour the net for DW-related news and spoilers I was still genuinely surprised and that's a magical feeling.
It was all very well done, and I agree with you, let's hope Chibnall keeps things close to his chest in the future as well. I wouldn't know if it was Moffat or the BBC who decided to show Simm at the end of The Pilot but that was a terrible mistake. An obvious attempt to rake in viewers, but spoiled far too early on. And the publicity around Simm's Master before the S10 finale was also too much over the top.
You'd have to have been a 7-year-old child with no access to the internet and spoiler-protective parents who shielded you from the tv adverts not to know that Simm's Master was returning. Yet if they kept things quiet, that moment where Razor took off his mask and revealed Simm could have gone down in history as a moment to rival Derek Jacobi's fobwatch reveal in Utopia.
>>85428652
If the show's ratings suffer for this gender swap, they should end Whittaker by having some alien enemy literally cut her head off, and IMMEDIATELY the regeneration energy spews out of her neck and a male replaces her. I don't even care which male. Maybe Rowan Atkinson for all I care. The Bean Doctor. Didn't he already do a parody of The Doctor once?

I don't watch much television.
>>85428963
Ah yes, Astolfo.Sieg is cuter.
>>85429014
Sieg is definitely cuter.
>>85428863
I watch both. I've long been part of the ASOIAF/GOT fandom (a good few years pre-show and all that) but am a bit leery of considering myself an out-and-out "fan" these days. I don't really have any investment in the plot or anything, but it's a nice community.
I adore Twin Peaks. Lynch is my favourite director. It ticks all my boxes.
Some other shows I'm a big fan of (but aren't airing anymore) are The Leftovers, Hannibal, Mad Men, that sort of thing. For newer shows, I really liked American Gods and Westworld. Black Mirror is great. I'm a bigger fan of film than I am of TV though.
What about you anon?
What's your personal favourite NuWho one-off monster design, /who/?
Has to be the Gas Mask Zombies for me. The creepy masks fused to their helpless faces is a great and unnerving design.
I'd put The Whispermen in second I think. I know they hardly do anything at all and they're a bit of a rip-off from Buffy's Gentlemen, but I just love the design. Victorian suit and coat, plus top hat, and a disturbing face and voice. Classy and creepy look. Very underutilized.
>>85428863
Watched GoT for the first 5 years, then dropped it. It starts off really well, but it gets worse with each season. I'm still interested in the books though, and will read the next one if the fat man ever bothers to finish it.
Still need to watch Twin Peaks, I think I'll wait until the new season is over to binge watch.
>>85428863
Only Twin Peaks, so far it's some of the best television I've seen
>>85426799

Christ, looking back at that now it looks really cheesy, but I remember seeing it on telly back in 2010 and being really hyped for the series, and the start of the Moffat era.
>>85429042
I watch GOT, but I haven't really liked an episode in a while. But I haven't dropped it yet because I want to know how it ends. I just finished the old Twin Peaks seasons, so I'll probably start the new one in a few days. And yeah, Hannibal, American Gods, and Westworld are GOAT.

>>85429146
I didn't like the look of them, but I liked how they all had different titles like Strategist etc. Thought we'd get some well-known Daleks again, maybe each one with a slightly different personality. But nah, they never used them again because people in general thought they looked dumb.
I thought there was some potential there, but what can you do eh?
>>85429111
>I'll probably start the new one in a few days.
I strongly recommend you watch the film (Fire Walk With Me) before starting the new series. Not only is it referenced a lot, it's top kino. If you can swing it, the deleted scenes compendium "The Missing Pieces" is actually referenced in the new series too, but you could get by without watching that.
That 2nd season of Twin Peaks was a bit rough at times wasn't it? Kino ending though
>>85429174
Comparing other shows to Doctor Who can be fun, especially when we go beyond just comparing superficially similar sci fi shows. American Gods tried to be an anthology series in disguise which is an interesting contrast to how Doctor Who almost does the opposite at times. Black Mirror is a complete anthology series (and Charlie Brooker would be GOAT for writing Doctor Who) and some Doctor Who eps feel like they'd fit in pretty well (eg Midnight) and some vice versa. Etc etc.
If you'd rather talk more directly about DW though, may I ask your thoughts on the 1st doctor having glowly gold regeneration hand in the christmas special? Do you think it's annoying or okay because Tenth Planet was in black and white so there's a bit of freedom with colour?
>capaldi got to face the original daleks, the original cybermen and the chumbleys

>>85429290
Why? Briggs does good Dalek voices.
>>85429300
Eh. First episode didn't hook me at all. And I really liked Fate/Zero.
>>85429329
>Briggs does good Dalek voices.
yeah he does, but it's boring having entire races all be voiced by the same person every single time. it's ridiculous on every level apart from budget/convenience.

>>85429260
> Black Mirror is a complete anthology series (and Charlie Brooker would be GOAT for writing Doctor Who) and some Doctor Who eps feel like they'd fit in pretty well (eg Midnight) and some vice versa. Etc etc.
I adore Black Mirror, it's some of the best telly out there at the moment. And I would love to see Charlie Brooker write an episode of Doctor Who. The man is obviously full of ideas about dystopian sci-fi.
His Black Mirror stuff is a bit too dark for Doctor Who though so he'd have to reign it in a bit, but still. If I were showrunner I'd definitely give him a call and see if he's willing/got the time.
>>85429575
Almost certainly.
Same with this moment.
>>85429575
>>85429588
reminder that he changes his mind in the episode and rushes back with the intention to blow the daleks up tae fuck
>>85429679
He said Moffat offered him a gig to write an episode, and he wanted to accept it, but he was too busy with Black Mirror.
>>85429712
Well let's hope Chibnall extends the hand to Brooker some time. I think the next batch of 6 Black Mirror episodes are set to release later this year, so maybe Brooker will have some time. We might get a Brooker-penned episode in S11.
>>85429640
Oh there's anons here that have listened to tonnes more audios than me, but I do love the audios yes!
My top 10...hmm...this isn't like ranked in order, but I'd go something like

The Natural History of Fear
The Chimes of Midnight
Signs
To the Death
Jubilee
The Holy Terror
Mary's Story
Circular Time
...ish

lel people do tend to gloss over that
>>85429789

where the hell do i find "the invasion" animated episode part 4?
>>85429049
If we're talking monsters that only appeared in one story I say the Vashta Nerada. I know we don't ever see them, but their concept is interesting and the consequences of being attacked by them made for some interesting monsters (skeletons in a spacesuit)
