Animation is THE story telling medium. You can invent characters and worlds and make them look exactly how you want. There are no visual limitations like in live action and no famous actors that you've seen in other movies to ruin your immersion. The creators don't have to compromise their vision at all as you're creating a world out of nothing.

One Piece is defined by it's cartoony aesthetic, caricature-like character designs and over the top fights.

You can't make that work in live-action. No "Buts", No "if they do it this way", just "it doesn't work".

I fear what things like Usopp's nose, Robin's nose, Frankey's over the top Poppey muscles, Chopper, as well as every single Zoan type fruit user and some of the more oddly proportionate characters will end up looking like.
Especially since you have to take some of them seriously, like, Arlong has a giant goofy saw shark nose, but he is also the biggest threat the crew faces in the first part of the show. You can't make that work in live-action.

How would this work with 17-19 year old kids? Because one piece has been running for 20 years yet it covered like 2-3 years of story, 2 of which was a timeskip.
