Do you miss the early 2010s(2009-2012), /tv/? Back when the atmosphere of the world had a more buoyant feel and a sense of optimism and hope for the future, in part due to Obama's election and the initial honeymoon over Bush being gone, which ended by his second term.

Before the atmosphere began getting much more polarizing and bitter around 2013/14 onward with SJWs, ISIS, Black Lives Matter, alt right, refugee crisis, etc. We really did all die in 2012; ever since then we've been living in a parody world where there are 642342329 genders and memes influence elections.

I am going to seriously have to go ahead with killing myself if we look back at those times as if they were anything but miserable and hopeless.

We thought it couldn't get any worse and it did. That's all that happened. If we survive the decade, I'm sure there'll be posts just like this looking back on today.

I remember that time being hopeful and optimistic after the dregs of 2007-2009. The economy was recovering, Obama's election and the ousting of Republicans excited people (the hype fizzled out by his second term), and pop music had a dreamy vibe that reflected what was going on. Similar to the late 90s.
>>
>>85311554
Obama being elected ruined american politics even more than bush did
Not to mention that if your nostalgic for 2009-2010 you are in fact actually nostalgic for dubya.

Decade culture doesn't always line up with calendar dates. Personally i thought 2008/2009 was really the beginning of "2010s" culture. Emo/scene died and was replaced with hipsters, Obama became president, Twitter and Facebook overtook Myspace, Reddit and Tumblr became well known, rock music fell off the charts, and electropop-type music like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry became popular.

This.

Pre-9/11, all memes and boogeymen and shilling aside, was the "buoyant feeling more optimistic" time.
The Patriot Act and all the shit West did, lead by the USA, subsequent to 9/11 has only gotten worse and more dystopian. It only feels better because shit keeps getting worse.

You're just older and more jaded. The world isn't any worse today than it was a decade ago.

The later years of a decade carry the most influence out of all years. 1996-1999 were much more "90s" than the years before it.

We are just now starting to develop a solid 2010s culture.

Wroooonnng. 1991-1996 was the "real 90s". 1997-1999 was paving the way more for the 2000s with reality TV, 3d gaming, boybands, The Simpsons going to shit in quality, Cartoon Cartoons, Attitude Era, etc.
>>
>>85312245
Almost all of the culture from 1990 - 1995 was borrowed from the 80s. That's how it's always been with decades.

This is probably going to sound like blogpost but it's semi-related to the topic. The 2009/2010s weren't more "optimistic" you were just younger and didn't care as much about everything. I'm a 19 year old collegecuck who feels nostalgia for my childhood, not the era I was born in. Once you become an adult, you realize you have yo keep track of a lot shit at the same time. Not only do i have to keep up with my studies but i also have to keep track of memes, politics, news and whole bunch shit. Compound that that for every movie/videogame/anime/book I finish, 2 or more are added to my already colossal backlog and not to mention that i have to do research into a lot of things like subcultures and I have a nasty tendency to "hobby-hop" that is, I read up on a hobby, take it up and after a while I find something else and move on. What do?
>>
>>85311554

Um...everything after 2008 was simply worse than everything after 2001, which was already shit.

Fucking retard.
>>
>>85312369
Not him, but I specifically miss internet culture being more niche and less mainstream in the early to mid 2000s. I miss communities like Newgrounds in its hay day
>>
Didn't we agree that everything went to shit in 2007 with the explosion of smartphones and social media? You're an ignorant teen who grew up in shit times and doesn't realize they were shit.
>>
>>85312073

He's right.

Basically;

>1992 - Violent crime reaches it's peak and begins to decline

>1995 - Economy recovers from 1987 recession

>1996 - Economy rises to rates not seen since 1973

>Mid 2001 - Economy begins to receede, setting in motion minor recession

>Late 2001 - WTC attacks, setting off global instability

>2001-2008 - Poor economy and global conflict

>2008 - Global Financial Collapse

>2008 - Present - No End In Sight

If you're feeling nostalgic for the late 2000's, I unironically feel bad for you because that's a depressingly low bar to set.

Literally fucking what you stupid child?
>>
>>85312700

No it wasn't.

It recovered in part from the 2001 decline, but it was still severely weakened comparable to '96-2001.

The U.S. was officially in a recession until 2003, making a recovery by 2005, before entering another dowturn in 2006 and finally another recession starting in 2007.

That's what I mean about feeling bad for kids feeling nostalgic about a period that was actually pretty shitty, but simply LESS shitty than what they got later.

>>85312991

Ruby Ridge or Waco both occurred in the Early 1990's.

As I stated above that was a period that saw a peak in violent crime and a continuing recession.

It wasn't until 1995 that things improved. You also had Oklahoma that year.

No but mine was
But it's not just them, I hate SJWs just as much as I hate the other side. Back in the day I grew up to be tolerant and open minded in a respectful way. To each, their own was my motto on the subject. I just accepted folk who were different without a second thought on hate wars. Now you're either a cuck degenerate or a racist bigot homophobe. It's all about dem fucking retarded politics, both sides infecting everything with their cancerous shit.
Back then I didn't matter, I believed in a happy world where we could enjoy things and have a laugh without shit hitting the fan at any second.
And back to your original post, those videos remind me of that purity and innocence of the time. That purity that was lost and replaced by cancerous political correctness or political extremism.

I know late 2014 is a red flag because of gobbergate, but at the same time I feel like it's when I became consciously aware of the idea that time doesn't progress as this inevitable upwards slope but as something in which good and bad outcomes can happen and its the individual's responsibility to create the best possible future because it's not guaranteed and the powers that be aren't enough to keep wrong at bay. Maybe this was just me maturing because I'm still a dumb kid, but I feel like late 2014 was the time that this unspoken sense of cosmic risk really became a thing.

I understand where youre coming from OP, but this is the bubble of inflated optimism for the future exploding in our faces. We really believed things were gonna get so much better but they didnt, because the world doesnt work like that and now we're disillusioned. And we're angry. The SJWs are a radical manifestation of this anger. Or moreso, the whiny temper-tantrum throwing faction of our generation that cant accept we have to actually fight for the things we want. Its a morbid feeling.

Its the choices we make that determine our successes and thus our quality of life. No matter how shitty things are for the rest of the country, I as an individual can make things not shitty for myself through hard work and discipline. These are the values our generation needs to learn because we arent entitled to shit, certainly not a better world.
>>

>>85311554
I would, but I'm deranged as all hell and perfectly aware of it, so this new world we're making suits me quite well. I honestly 100% no joke cannot wait for the implosion of the west, as it's only through warfare that any true progress is made. Ironically the "progressives" have been holding us back for a very long time. A great filter of genocide will destroy the chaff of humankind and leave us much better off in the end. If that means that people like me or even I myself die in the process, so be it.
