Bill was pretending to be Lenore because he couldn't accept the reality that Lenore was never going to come back to him, the only was for him to have Lenore again was to become Lenore. Hank acted the part of Lenore and told Bill that she was never going to come back to him, which allowed him to accept the truth of the situation and come out of his delusion.
