It looks pretty decent from the trailer, but I find it strange

It looks pretty decent from the trailer, but I find it strange that Franco and co chose not to use Tommy's accent for the character during normal dialogue exchanges, but use his accent for the lines he delivers while filming. Its sort of off putting if you're a fan of The Room.

Are you excited/ mildly interested in this flick, /tv/?

Yeah, the book is hysterical but at the same time I think there's emotional levels to it that Franco and Rogen probably won't be able to convey in their film. Tommy Wiseau seemed like a very troubled and complex person, I hope they don't just play him for laughs.

i think that he's intentionally not doing the accent in the scene because IIRC tommy dubbed over the original lines and i think that will be something covered later in the movie. so it'll fit, but it's not 1:1 right now to the finished movie

Nah the book isn't really about the movie at all. It's about this bizarre friendship tommy strikes up with the author/best friend actor in the movie. The vast majority of the book is an exploration into the weird, messed up mind of tommy. Any scenes about the actual movie always end up relating to how weird tommy is. Hell, the book is worth reading for tommys "backstory" alone.

Fucking plebs. He's not trying to do an impression because then it would seem like he's making fun of Tommy. They want to communicate his heart and passion and not have the audience distracted by him just doing a silly voice.

This is the same reason Phillip Seymour Hoffman didn't do an exact copy of Capote because then it just turns into caricature. This is not meant to be Room 2.0. It's a movie about outsiders trying to make it in Hollywood. Hamming it up and trying to do a silly voice would just cheapen the movie. This is why Franco is a successful and accomplished actor and you're all just talentless cucks.

Fuck, I still can't believe you idiots haven't figured it out yet. Every time I think you morons can't sink any lower as filthy phillistines who don't know anything about movies and every time you exceed my expectations.

I'd say since 127 Hours. Whether you like it or not, he is a big celebrity, in part due to his media presence and being part of the Seth Rogen group.

At the very least, he APPEARS to be a big celebrity, due to marketing yourself (SNL, artsy shit etc)

Is it not true he dubbed over his lines in post?
>>
>>85221869
He did. Most of the audio recorded during filming ended up being unusable, so most of it had to be dubbed over, including that scene. It's almost a given that the need for dubbing is going to be addressed in the movie because it's another source of comedy.

The way Franco gives the line is probably a lot like Tommy gave it after hours of failing to get the take right: weak and somewhat confused. The angry, more confident speech we're used to was the result of dubbing, which was probably easier to get right because Tommy didn't have to follow direction or remember the lines.

>>
Anyone else still suspicious about where Tommy got all his money from?

The way the book just said "yeah he started out with literally no money but then sold cheap toys to tourists until he could afford real estate" just sounds too unbelievable.
Greg made some good points against the money laundering theory but it all still seems fishy, like the old lady and the dead guy that were listed as producers. Does Tommy really seem like someone with enough social skills to convince two rich people they should give him millions of dollars for an amateur film?
>>
>>85223402
>sold cheap toys to tourists

sounds like child prostitution
>>
>>85223162
Unironically a good scene.
>>
>>85223402
>sounds too unbelievable.
It's basically how Arnold Schwarzenegger got rich. When he moved to the US, he had a job managing a gym, then he quickly started mail-order fitness and bricklaying businesses and funneled that money into real estate. He became a millionaire long before he ever got into movies.

Tommy didn't even get by purely on luck and work. Greg hints heavily that his wealthy benefactors (Drew Cafferty and the dead lady listed as a producer of the movie) are what got him started in the real estate business. Considering that he probably had support along the way, the story is pretty believable.

Overall the majority of the movie looks like parody, but it looks like they're also copying scenes straight out of the movie, which would violate copyright.

Even if it's based on the book, which is based on the movie, you can't recreate identical scenes without the copyright owner's permission.

If Tommy Wiseau gave them permission then that's a different story. I guess he's standing to make some bank off this too so that makes a lot of sense.
