What should the BBC do to fix the gender pay gap?

This is a huge scandal in the UK right now.
>>
>>85175785
I think "huge scandal" is slightly overstating it
>>
>shat on pitch
>get paid

Brilliant.
>>
It's simple. Make women funny.
>>
>>85175785
Hire entertaining women.
>>
the government should fund education more so we can develop more intelligent, entertaining and funny women, who can then compete with male entertainers. at present there's no way around the problem without lowering the quality of content
>>
>>85175834
It's on the front page on every huge newspaper
>>
Good thing america has laws that prohibit against gender pay discrimination since 1963 thanks to Kennedy and you can always call on the government to report it if you believe you are being paid unfair due to sex the government will investigate it and you can sue them now thanks to Obama.
>>
>>85175893
60% of universities in Britain are filled by Women.

There are more women than men in higher education now

They could hire women who are actually worth a bucket of shit and not just gormless leftist drones. These male presenters are crap too, they are just slightly better than any female currently employed by the BBC. Really though, the whole organisation needs tearing down and all Leftist perverts shooting for subverting culture and making everything dumber and uglier.
>>
>>85175947
>people don't like Graham
>>
If someone in the entertainment business is popular, you pay therm more. Men and women both watch TV/movies and therefore both contribute to an entertainer becoming famous.
>>
>media cocksuckers trying to make this about muh wage gap to distract from the fact that every year 30,000 working-class men and women are given a criminal record as a result of non-payment of the license fee just so Chris fucking Evans can have a TWO POINT TWO MILLION POUND salary

that being said I think all actors and actresses are getting too uppity and demanding too much for a bunch of spergs who play dress up and pretend for a living, we should remind them romans use to feed them to large cats for entertainment, and it's starting to look like we'd get more entertainment that way than listening to their whinging
>>
an issue about class is spun into a gender thing.

hmmm...The problem is that anyone for a public broadcaster is being paid hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Liberal feminism (we need more women exploiters) is not helping this.

t. feminist.
>>
>>85175919
Diversity quotas, and education is more worthless every year. There are teens in college right now who have suffered so much from broken families and an education ruined by Leftist culture, that despite being perfectly physically healthy, they have the educational level of 5 year old children.

t. Teacher
>>
Once again the BBC damage control team has done an excellent job on spinning this scandal in the least harmful way possible. Instead of this being a conversation about the massive class and wealth disparity that exists in the UK (and particular the wealth divide between London and the regions), they have successfully diverted all debate into the fruitless angle of 'discrimination'. People should be asking, why are talentless hacks being paid millions with extorted public money, but instead the feminist rage machine has revved up into full gear to demand that the women be paid the same, equally ridiculous amount of money as their worthless male coworkers.

Well done BBC. If they survived the Jimmy Saville scandal this is like a light breeze by comparison.

Women just don't draw the same amount of audience as most men do.
>>
Surely this bleating about the wage gap is only going to mean that absolute mongs like Victoria Derbyshire are suddenly going to get a 500% salary increase, so that next year when the figures roll round again people are going to be even more outraged?

Like, they're not going to bring the men's pay down to equalise it (or else they'll release details of the BBC's child sex parties which is honest to god the only reason I can think of for these salaries), so they'll just push the women's up

Fuck that, cap their pay at £75000. Enough to live (very) comfortably in London. If they decide they're worth more and want to fuck off to the private sector, cut them loose and get someone else in. There's no shortage of people who would happily do the job and it's not difficult work.

The only one here that deserves his salary is based Norton because his show actually generates profit

The BBC needs to go private instead of public funding. This is fucking ridiculous
>>

Evans makes no sense at all, but there's no female presenter or actress who is as big as Graham Norton is for UK talk shows or Lineker is for sports.

It's not sexist to pay the biggest, most influential stars more to keep them working for you.

I'm 100% sure, because the director general was out before the figures were published talking about it and all of the presenters on radio 4 were talking about the gap instead of questioning the actual worth of their colleagues

the premise of complaining about the gap is that the salaries are in any way justifiable to begin with

>BBC light entertainment
Generally trash, especially so since Top Gear got neutered. I'd bin it all to save money. Leave the shit telly to ITV and Channel 4.

>BBC dramas
Hit and miss but they're made on a shoestring and feature mostly no-name actors so they can stay.

>BBC News
All the hard work is done behind the scenes, so I'd keep all the current journalists and probably expand their department to improve quality. Fire the high-earning 'star' presenters and replace them with anyone who wants to do the job and can read. It's not a difficult job.

>BBC Sport
Sack Lineker and the other high earners or severely reduce their pay, see above. Pubs up and down the country are filled with guys who could do a good enough commentary job even while pished. Use the money saved to buy more cameras and support crew so they don't always miss the fucking action.

Ah, /tv/, I know its hard to stay informed because cuck porn doesn't come with an educational supplement, so lets set some things straight:

1. BBC is not funded by taxes, it is funded by the license fee, which is what mommy and daddy pay each year if they own a TV. So Gary Lineker is not taking tax £££ that could be supporting your habitual unemployment.

2. The BBC operates commercially abroad, selling and licensing programmes to other broadcasters. It took in £1bn last year, no doubt in part because the BBC's actors and presenters are highly marketable.

3. You may not like/ consume the programmes, but most people on that list are involved with the BBC's most domestically popular output. So they're doing a good job, and being remunerated as such (again, not by taxes).

4. Chris Evans made his £££ from selling a production company to Virgin. Look it up.

Now, back to the highly informed and moderate gender debate...
>>
>>85178247
Yeah, that's really the only argument against it. But that would be fixed by simply not allowing politicians to hide where they're getting money from as well as having strictly enforced bribery laws. Spend the money that is currently going to politicians on setting up a whole division just working with overseeing the accounts and investments of politicians(and their close relatives it might be hidden behind), so instead of lots of money going to the people at the top you're creating a whole bunch of new jobs with it.

As it is now politicians still take bribes or buy shares in companies based on how they're voting, so all that's really different is that they're taking more expensive bribes. Lowering their wage would actually be liberating in another way, because then the common man would also be able to bribe them with just an egg sandwich or something.
>>
>>85178464
> Chris Evans made his £££ from selling a production company to Virgin.

Actually this list is solely about how much the BBC pays as a salary, hence why Norton for example is under-rated here because part of his salary is paid by a production company

Now back to plebbit
>>
>>85178464

WRONG

you only pay if you use the BBC. You can have a TV and you can receive the BBC, but all you need to do is to claim that you don't don't use it and you don't get charged. There is no way that they can prove that you actually use their services.

The BBC would be perfect if it was literally just stripped down completely to BBC4, BBC Parliament, Radio 3 and Radio 4 - perhaps also with a thoroughly reformed BBC News (although cleaning up that den of vipers is an unenviable task). Haven't the BBC always been honest and up-front about the exact earnings of each of their employees (or at least they've been doing this for some years now)?

Isn't the obvious answer that women working for the BBC aren't getting the top jobs like Graham Norton's chatshow? I've no idea what Lineker does but I expect he presents sport events and such.

If it's such a problem, get women sports people in as hosts. Also I'm pretty sure Clare Balding gets a nice, fat paycheck. Isn't she all over the sporting stuff, even when it's not about horses?
>>
>>85175919

>>
There is no gender pay gap, they all have different or multiple jobs. They can't be compared.

Dan Walker even said he gets paid the same as the women who present breakfast news, but he also presents Football Focus which gives him a seperate wage. So he's on the list but his copresenters aren't.

I think the worst ones are the radio hosts, literally 200 grand to talk for a couple of hours and have your producer do everything else.
>>
>>85180398
>Isn't the obvious answer that women working for the BBC aren't getting the top jobs like Graham Norton's chatshow?
That's exactly what's going on. After adjusting for occupation and skill levels, the only (marginal) gap is in some of the top earners because women are shit at negotiating salaries. It's basically upper class cunts using gullible "progressive" women as their useful idiots.

Yeah, so if the BBC is open about who they pay which amount of money, then if they want to get more female names higher on that list they need to train some of their veteran female workers to do a higher-paying job. I bet Daly and Winkleman get loads for presenting Strictly. Get some more women in, give them a high-ranking job they can handle and the public will like. It's not sexism, it's just that those three men in OP's post have a long career behind them and now host top-tier BBC shows.
>>
>>85175898
The newspapers are privately owned. They hate the BBC because it's paid for with tax money. Then again, the BBC makes incredible nature documentaries and has a duty to be fair and balanced, whereas the newspapers will lie and cheat and steal as hard as they possibly can to make money for their revoltingly wealthy and powerful owners.

As Stewart Lee points out, this puts the British public in the strange position of believing that the BBC is biased because the BBC reports on the allegations against itself.

When female personalities can pull in the pleb viewers like the top-rated men, they'll get paid accordingly. Culture takes time to catch up with the changing moral landscape. Who gives a shit
