What's the difference between a remake, a reboot, a sequel, and a soft reboot?
Remake: shows the same events as in some older movie. Doesn't necessarily point that the first movie didn't happen and it can be in the same universe.
Reboot: Restarts the universe, usually with an origin story. Deletes previous canon or part of it.
Sequel: Continuation to a story. Shows what happened after a certain story and places itself in the same universe.
Idk what a soft reboot is. TFA is simultanously a remake, reboot and sequel. It's a remake of ANH (very similar), a reboot (resets the Expanded Universe to nothing as it's the first entry to the new universe, while keeping the old movies) and a sequel (same universe as the prequels and the OT, continues the story from Episode 6).
