What are some movies with a disparity between "critics" and audience?

Movie critics have to watch everything sober, and pay attention.

They can't go in high on weed and spitball with their friends amount that time they were wearing that funny shirt.

I enjoyed King Arthur quite a bit. For some reason it drew in those people who can't shut up about how everything is "videogamey" even though I can't think of any video games that look like King Arthur did. I guess people who like Arturian legends are very autistic. But this is basically nothing like Arturian legend except for the presence of Excalibur. The only less faithful adaptation of King Arthur is Fate/stay night.

>>
>>85119266
The meme that Stalin deliberately killed Ukrainians with Gran requisitions.

It was more like he was an indifferent prick, in my opinion, rather than that he set out to kill them. Still deplorable though.

This movie just rattles my cage because it's basically Ukrainian Nationalist propaganda that emerged after Euromaiden.
>>
>>85119315
It's an odd movie. It's a comedy that's never really funny, only clever. Still very entertaining, but it's understandable why general audiences didn't love it.
>>
>>85119407
I laughed but I get that it might not be for everyone. The whole schtick with the writers actually being commies who were putting subliminal messages in their movies as if McCarthyism was real was funny as fuck.
>>
>>85119500
I love Coen brothers movies, and I love the setting and how it satirizes old Hollywood, but most of it's gags just never got a laugh out of me. They were clever, but they lacked the needed delivery to really drive it home. I really appreciated it more for it's grandiose send ups of musicals, westerns and other genres. Still a great movie even if it somewhat missed the mark.

that's absolutely unacceptable.
>>
>>85119665
Maybe skewing in the online audience pool is biasing the tomatometer against spy kids in a way that doesn't reflect the actual normie opinion accurately. Generally the kids won't be the ones who go on rotten tomatoes, and maybe only the parents who hated it bothered to comment.
>>
>>85117135

I saw it recently and it was solid.
>>
>>85117093
one of my favorite comedies.
all i ever heard back in the day was people shit on it, but it's really funny.
Chevy as the compulsive gambling doctor who gets worked over is hilarious.
And Norm's delivery makes that movie.
it makes sense that it's not all that well-regarded.
Norm's humor is really niche.
most people don't get his brilliance.

Not him, but I recommend it, too. I went into it expecting nothing and pretty quickly realized that it wasn't going for the same sort of thing that Boorman's Excalibur was doing. Grandma's Boy seems to bring out kneejerk reactions on both sides. I watched it back in my stoner days and thought it was mediocre, not particularly funny. Like a 4/10. Maybe if I watched it with friends and even higher it could have been a 6/10 but that's really pushing it. It's just not particularly good. 16% is bullshit but so is 85%.

SPOILERS, don't read this if you haven't watched the film!

It makes perfect sense when you're sober as well. There's never concrete confirmation that the man in space is real so you can choose if you think of the space journey as the husband's fantasy to complement the wife's fantasy, or if he really ended up building a spaceship and flying to that star. But regardless of which interpretation you choose the rest of the movie is crystal clear so I really don't see how someone could dislike it. The visuals and music are incredible and there's plenty to think about if you expect every film to make you think a lot. I don't see how any critic could give it a bad rating. I wouldn't want to be in the same room as a person who dislikes The Fountain.

But Hollywood was and is literally brimming with communists or similar trying to fill their audiences with propaganda. Just look at Trumbo. We've got this high budget new film portraying him as a sympathetic victim of paranoia who stood up for gis right to free speech.

The guy was a real, actual traitorous commie with legit ties to the USSR who wrote puff pieces on Hitler while they were buddies with Russia and made a swift about face when that changed. He was the literal embodiment of the exact thing McCarthy was ousting.

Correct, lads. I've always felt 1>3>4>2 and I don't even consider 5 part of the franchise. 1 is perfect, top to bottom. Likewise 3, great story/ideas with the whole simon says thing, Sam Jackson is great as the racist black guy, and I liked that John McLane didn't get a happy ending after 1 and 2. 2 was just a rehash of 1, but far less memorable. 4 had some great action scenes (launching the car into the chopper), and was the last movie Bruce Willis made where he still had that old swagger and looked like he could realistically kick some ass.

Cause critics are full of shit. I seem to remember Roger Ebert having to re-review Pet Detective because his review was so detached from the audience that he was losing credibility. Critics need an audience too. They are trying to sell commercial time for their channel, paper, or television program. And they can't do that by simply going with the flow. They can't say "well this is fine as a slapstick popcorn movie if you are into that sort of thing." Some can be bought and some seem to just be calculating contrarians.

They're also reviews of their time, which is to say over a decade after something like The Life Aquatic came out, now people have received it more fairly and recognize it as the gem that was overlooked by so many in the past.
