era 1. mostly noncanon fuck-it-verse, where they were just selling shit while the show was going, to make money. the only things canon really are just things not dealing with buffy directly

era 2, the canon universe, where everyone gets their own storys. its filled with minis arcs dealing with specific characters, or groups, and for the most part is... good. IMO, much of spikes minis are good, angel after the fall is pretty decent, and angel & faith isnt that bad, but im a massive sperg for faith. era basically ends after the "end" of after the fall, when angel becomes buffys pet again

era 3, the "fuck it we dont make enough money from this shit"-verse. everything is still canon, but their give full comics or series of minis severely died down. at this point, angel was regulated to a background character again, and was written to literally fuck a universe into existence. only really ongoing titles at this point are angel&faith, and the "everyone suck buffys dick hour, starring buffy and the rest of them"

every era has some good stories, but honestly, the better a title is, is generally inversely related to how much it actually fits into their "season" method. other than season 6+ of angel, the only good things are minis or one shots

Angel was ok. I liked the characters chemistry, and the setting was cool. Really into the whole urban fantasy stuff.

But some of the plotlines were just so terrible. Anything to do with Connor or the black woman big bad who's on Suits now. Most of the main plot for Seasons 3 and 4 (though some of the side episodes were good). I gave up after seeing how bad 4 was, so I never watched 5. Might have to go back and do that.

I have to give it to Buffy over Angel. Angel's high points were great, but Buffy's high points were better. Buffy's low points were lower than Angel's. But on average Buffy was just better than Angel.

Here's something I never noticed before

In the first episode of Buffy Season 4, the guy she bumps into at night (Eddie) that she thinks is going to be friends with, goes missing and becomes a vampire under Sunday is the dude who plays Oberyn Martell

This is something I've never agreed with. Buffy's worst eps were always dumb schlock that was aware it was being campy. Angel's "bad" eps were always completely self-serious.

I'd take eps like Bad Eggs or I Robot of Angel's worst like She or Thin Dead Line any day of the week. I don't think Angel came into it's own consistently until S3. S1 is actually pretty bad on rewatch. S2 has some good stuff but I don't think the show comes into its own until S3. Then Darla shows up and it's off the rails with Connor/Jasmine shit.

Angel is so fucking all over the place. Buffy does have some naff episodes surely, but Angel can go for like 6-8 episodes without anything memorable happening at all. I've watched Angel like twice through and can't remember most of it.

Everyone who likes Angel better also seems to pretend like the whole Series 4/Beast/Jasmine/Connor/Cordelia thing didn't happen and desperately claims doesn't count if you're reviewing the series despite the sheer awfulness, but say things like Bad Eggs (a one shot) reduces Buffy overall

I'd just like to point out the difference in quality and enjoyment. The bad episodes of Buffy are really completely stupid and idiotic, but they're still fun. You can enjoy them ironically, laughing at how bad they are, or how campy or stupid the plot is.

Angel's bad episodes, aren't enjoyable at all, they just suck.

So if I had to rewatch something again, then yeah I'd go for the bad Buffy eps instead of the bad Angel episodes.

But as far as TV quality, Buffy's bad episodes are an F, whereas Angel's bad episodes are a D. I guess that doesn't really matter, but Angel's bad episodes are because they are annoying, or offputting, unpleasant. Buffy's bad episodes are mindnumbingly idiotic.

Buffy's duds may be bad enough that they go back around, and become "so bad it's good", Angel's flops are just bad and unpleasant to watch, even if they don't go as pants-on-head retarded as Buffy's bad episodes. Angels' bad episodes are still dull, boring, and painful to watch.

I could get a chuckle out of seeing underage drinking college kids turning into apes and running around. I can't enjoy Connor.
