Not being elitist, most tv writers are just normal people. They're a lot more creative than average, sure, but that doesn't mean they have a staggering IQ. Evidence being: we normals can find holes in their "genius" characters' plans. Because they're not really geniuses, they're characters that are, at max, as smart as the authors, wearing hats that say "genius" on them.

Half the purpose of practically every other character on the show is to be constantly in awe of House's intelligence, to help sell it.
