BLADE RUNNER 2049 NEW TRAILER

I still don't know what to make of this.

KINO!
>>
>>85077304
It's going to be virtually stunning and hopefully a KINO
>>
prometheus 2.0 incoming
>>
i feel like while some scenes try to imitate the blade runner look and feel others just look like generic indoor/outdoor settings. in the orginal the worls felt very consistent in its colors and light, here the colors and light is all over the place.
>>
>>85077173
it's not going to be /kino/, just another blockbuster filled with action scenes to satisfy normies, it's 2017 for fucks sake
>>
>>85077445
Yeah. It's really lost its atmosphere. Feels like a generic sci-fi flick.
>>
>>85077542
>blockbuster
It's gonna bomb, but it's gonna be KINO.
>>
>>85077173

At least the soundtrack is good. One of the best bits of the original was the score.

But I swear to fucking God if Deckard is a replicant I'll murder someone.

I've never seen a trailer that misses the point of the original so god damn much.

Looks about as 'good' as Ghost in the Shell. When does hollywood get nuked?

This looks like smeared shit.
Shit color grading and absolute, ABSOLUTE TRASH lighting by an amateur who has no idea how to create mood, because all he has ever worked for was on cgi capeshit.

It does look better than that Ghost in the Shell atrocity, but only slightly.

>>
>>85079384
That's because it's a trailer and it "has" to be retarded to stupid execs. He probably has nothing to do with the trailers at all. I don't believe for a second the type of music in the trailer is the type of music that will be anywhere in the movie. It's just not Johans style.

I think at worst, 2049 will be okay to fine. I'd be impressed if it was bad
>>
>>85079455
What if it's kino and better than the original?
I know it's far fetched, but it'd blow my fucking mind
>>
>>85079455
There's no excuse. It is possible to make a slow-paced trailer that does noir and not explosive music.
>>
>>85079573
You have to get the normies interested too to sell tickets. The original Blade Runner also did what 2049 is doing. Show all the action in the trailers trickery.
>>
>>85079573

No one is saying it isn't possible. But they don't make one like that because the marketing people don't want that.

That would blow my mind too. It would put Villeneuve on the map for real and not just for critics. I'd be really happy for him. I think his style of directing is great for cinema in general.
>>
>>85079698
Nah you are right to think that way.
Recent work of the director isn't putting any faith in the movie,I mean i will sell tickets but will be bland as fuck.

Again, not true. Normies are okay with slow paced trailers, just look at all the rom coms and other 2deep4u movies that are loved by normies. You don't need action to sell a movie.

Seems to "big". One of the best parts of Blade Runner was how small the story actually was even with major events happening (I mean, Tyrell was assassinated, that's a huge world event) it never felt like it went too high over the characters head.

It is something that I've noticed in a lot of modern films, and I'm not sure what to call it.

I don't know why people keep acting like the original was flawless. It was visually stunning, aesthetics and setting were amazing, and Rutger Hauer stole the show with the best performance of his career, but many other things were pretty weak.
>>
Here's the story:

- Deckard is a replicant
- Goose is a replicant
- Deckard has lived alone for awhile
- He ventures to a different city (Las Vegas) where Deckard decides to drop tonnes of goo on the inhabitants, exterminating them all
- Goose comes to investigate
- They meet each other and kiss
- Decard is killed eventually but Goose survives
-Twist ending: it wasn't Goose, it was actually Deckard, who is now captaining the ship
>>
>>85080730
this
But you aren't allowed to say that because /tv/ decreed that it's zomg da bezt movie evar
>>
>>85080730
We're not saying it's flawless. We're saying that this isn't Blade Runner.

Also, why is this movie pretending Deckard was important in any way? They dragged him in off the street for a job, then dumped him right back there when he was done.
>>
>>85080140

That scene more or less confirms a few things:

>Scott is going with the Deckard = Replicant thing.
>Batista is a Replicant (who dies during this scene).
>Gosling is a Replicant.

These three confirmations come about as a result of establishing the bar for action in the movie. It's an incredibly important thing as it informs the viewer what the MC can and cannot do, and can/cannot withstand during a fight or some act of physical trauma. Gosling literally getting put through a wall like that by a guy like Batista tells us that the MC is not normal, right off the bat. This, coupled with his methodical nature and skill also shows he is not normal in other aspects. Now, the alternative here could be that Gosling /is/ actually a human, and Batista & Deckard are Replicants. However we're being led to believe that Deckard isn't a Replicant, and that Gosling is throughout the movie. This would be an interest role reversal as the Replicants were designed to pass as human (this is the whole reason for the test), and exceed human thresholds in pretty much every other avenue. If Gosling turns out to be human and Deckard is a Replicant, than what we have here is a situation where it shows that humanity can be cold, and robotic (autistic) and that a Replicant is no less capable of being confused for a human by the viewer. We know this already given it's the fucking underlying story of the original film, but it does help bash the concept in over the head of normies who still can't grasp it.

>>
>>85081140

The story of Sicario is simple, but the politics behind it was not. He does a very good job of downplaying and hiding nearly every important aspect of the politics in the film that drives the action until the end, or you go back and watch it. This is a deliberate choice in order to mirror the confusion of the otherwise intelligent MC. She is confused, but she isn't confused because she lacks information that we have been told deliberately while she isn't around. She lacks that information because she isn't told it, or it's told around her in such a way that it's useless to her or us until the end. Even when we're directly told something it's usually duplicitous because she (and us) are being misled.

Arrival was innovative because the aliens and first contact scenario was a huge departure in every way from the usual affair regarding these two topics. People liked that it was refreshing and different, and also focused on the humans without getting bogged down in, "DUDE WEIRD AYYY'S LMAO!" or "DUDE EXPLOSIONS LMAO!"

Pro-tip: You're gonna wanna peruse Hampton Fancher's original script for the first film as well as Dick's DADoES? to get a read on where this is headed.

>the scene with Bautista is the first scene in Fancher's original script, with K now taking the place of Deckard
>Deckard's remark we were being hunted may allude to the parallel police department in DADoES?
that was staffed entirely by Replicants
, who had also erected a parallel society whose depth and extent were not entirely known, but suspected to possibly already have grown larger than human society. In the novel, Deckard had been arrested by the Replicant police and barely escaped with his life
>i kind of wonder if Leto's character's glaucoma aren't filters for that replicant redeye

That's why I'm so pumped. It looks like Villaneuve is fleshing out details from the novel and original script which were unaddressed in the first film and are absolutely necessary for any sequel to be worth the name, although determining whether Rachel had reproductive capacity, whether Deckard did too (if he's a Replicant, as he likely is), and whether they had a kid ought to be considered necessary topics as well.

This is gonna be fucking great. I don't like Villaneuve at all, actually. Tired, trite, and derivative, with just one good film (Prisoners) under his belt. But with the source material and production guidance he has, I think he's gonna pull it off.

And any of you who are already judging it to be shit are fucking Millenial scum who weren't even alive when the first was released. Watch all five versions and read the novel, its sequels, and Hampton's script before opening your fucking mouths again, you stupid, ugly children.

SPOILERS

The future of the species is Women as shown in the trailer.

We see people walking next to old statues of men.

Later we see the main character at 1:01 looking in a deserted/ruined area revealing statues of women.

The past that has been forgotten is that Women were the focal point and now it's them who are the future.

First off. I saw this last night at a special showing, and I'm not lying, probably 50 or more percent of the people in the theatre were seniors. Me and my girlfriend are 23 and we had an old couple in front of us and on both sides of us and it smelled like old people.

Second off, people were checking their phones 70 minutes in. It was distracting. The old man sitting beside me fell asleep and I knew when he fell asleep because his breathing changed from quiet to slow and heavy and the old lady in front kept turning around to see who was making so much noise.

Third off, when the movie ended, only 1 group of nerdy highschoolers awkwardly clapped. I felt so embarrassed for them, myself, and everyone around me. They started off clapping so confidently, like they thought they could get everyone else to clap too. Then the old lady on the other side of me was about to start clapping but when she saw no one else was joining along with them she changed her mind. Everyone left the theatre in dead silence.
>>
>>85082922
it's actually continuing the novel(do androids dream of electric sleep) sub-plot of collectivism of human mind, spirit, and emotion. It's called mercerism in the novel. Forgot how it ended though.
>>
>>85083113
Nice argument kiddo.
>>
>>85081643
certianly feels like there is a latency to knowing when to step aside
>>
>>85083157
key evidence being the main antagonist(forgot his name) sharing the grey soul-less eyes that Deckard's novel-only wife(iran) has, who is an indulger in the collectivist-religion of mercerism. Androids naturally do not like mercerism as they'd like to be independent as much as the "regular" humans do.
>>

>>
>>85083243
Yeah novel was about expressing human individuality whose key was emotion/empathy. mercerism didn't play a huge role, but I see they're taking that sub-plot to an appropriate cult-leader villain in this movie. I'm wary but also satisfied they're not continuing the emotion plot-line as I feel like it's had a good ending. Now comes the second part where the threat of individuality, an aspect desired by androids and humanity like, is threatened by collectivism. dunno if you've watched evangelion, but this guy wants to "tang" everyone judging off the trailer dialogue.
>>
>>85083369
yeah, they did.

Sicario is a simple story, just told well and has serious balls with the switch in narrative 2/3rds of the way in.

Also, Arrival is a simple story, just told well and breaks the usual mold of that type of story.

To be fair, Prisoners is a simple story told well.

I fully expect the new blade runner film not go too deep (will still have the question of what is it to be human.) but I expect it to be done well.

Hell, it a good match as the original blade runner isn't that deep of a story, just became a classic due to the set design and the main bad guy being so damn good.

>>85086208
I didn't like blade runner the first time I saw it, but fell in love with it the 2nd time.

Think of Scifi movies as movies with 4 settings for "Thinking."

1 - Movies that do not require much thinking. 5th element is a good example of it.
2. Movies that have some concepts that require thought (I will use Avatar for that)
3. Movies that are trying to convey some key concepts, but also tell a story - Bladerunner and the Animated GitS are good examples
4. Full bore autistm - 2001, Solaris, and the like.

Once I knew that blade runner was really a detective story of a detective that doesn't do much detective work and accepted it for what it is, it really is a good film.

Some are freaking out as the preview has so much action (even if we may very well have seen all the action sequences in the preview).

Considering what the director did with Arrival, and his other work, I suspect that much like arrival, Prisoners, and Sicario, this will be the 4-5th best movie of the year that I will like a lot.

Looks promising but i have a couple of remarks
-lack of vibrant neon atmosphere
-fear that Ford's character will have too little screen time

The film automatically carries a heavy burden, I don't expect it to entirely live up to the masterpiece that is Blade Runner.
I just hope they don't squander the film's legacy.

I swear our rulers are going to come out and say some Humans are really Replicants. It could be easier to make one of them, than a machine like a Terminator. Just hijacking nature.

Do people actually think the DP doesn't light movies? There is no way people who have more than a laymans understanding of film production think that right? This has to be bait.

>lack of vibrant neon atmosphere
original BR was predominantly dark and navy blue. there were glimmers of color but this was used to contrast the murky, gloomy setting. the longest scenes were usually not bright and colorful
>fear that Ford's character will have too little screen time
I don't think Ford's lack of presence would be an issue because he's clearly not intended to be the focus of the film. he's gonna be someone that goose meets up with, then probably killed off before a third of the movie is up. old geezer probably only came back for the check since so many people didn't like Blade Runner at first
>fear that Leto's villain (?) will fall flat
my fear when I saw the first trailer although if he's the calm, calculating, psychologically threatening villain I'd be okay with that. if he were just the brains behind everything and spewed a bunch of culty philosophical shit about why what he's doing is best I'd be okay so long as he doesn't show a lot of emotion because that's when a villain like that really breaks down

honestly I love Blade Runner and I hope this is good kino, don't know why people are already shitting on this with a good to great cast and production (Villeneuve, Scott, Deakins, Ford, Gosling, cautiously including Leto)

villeneuve said he signed on to direct because the script was really good. now I realize that villeneuve is a facebook/reddit director who built his career by making dumb normies feel smart but with all that in mind, villeneuve would have still wiped his hairy french-canadian ass with prometheus' shooting script while laughing hysterically.

Yeah I'm kinda bummed I even watched this one, it reveals way too much of the plot, like every fucking trailer these days. I'm so sick of this bullshit. Trailers are supposed to make you want to see the movie to find out what happens, not show you a condensed version of the entire plot so you already know what happens.

I just fucking hate the time we live in. For so many reasons. Take me back to the 80 and 90s please.

The movie isn't going to be about Deckard for very long. The trailers make it seem like it, obviously, to draw people in that like Harrison Ford. But Deckard was just a semi-retired Blade Runner who was slipping into alcoholism and obscurity. He had no real leverage for this "war" they keep mentioning.

That is, until he met Rachael. She's obviously the big thing everyone is after, not Deckard. But Sean Young is bat shit crazy now so they will explain that she died and is buried somewhere and after they get that information out of Deckard, they'll get rid of him. The scenes we see of Harrison Ford in the trailers are going to be about the extent of his time in the movie. K looks for him until about 2/3rds in, finds him, asks about Rachael, finds out she's dead, they get captured, they get free, shoot out in club, Deckard dies, movie slides into final act.

I bet that K isn't even out to find Deckard at first, he's out to find Rachael until he discovers that she ran off with this Blade Runner so he tracks him down instead to learn more.

The big focus of this movie is Rachael. I don't think they will make Deckard a replicant because of this. She's the "key" that Jared Leto is talking about, not Harrison Ford.
>>
That last shot of the fucking trailer.

Mark my god damn words. That was a young replicant Deckard in the shadows that Deckard and K are looking at. We are going to get CGI Harrison Ford and we are going to find out Deckard is AND isn't a replicant so that everyone will be happy.

You'll see.
