If she's a (female) Doctor, where for all intents and purposes she's not much different from any of the previous ones, only with a pair of breasts, most won't mind. But if they decide to write her as a female Doctor, where her character devolves into the writers wanking themselves off over their 'brave' choice, then I think quite a few people will get turned off and stop watching.

I think there's an questionable implicit assumption in this. The fact he's only ever been paired off with women doesn't necessarily prove he was only ever limited to women. Personally I'm skeptical that the concept even applies here, let alone that it would definitely persist across regenerations.

I don't expect to see a romance storyline for 13 any time soon anyway, it would feel a bit "oh she's a woman so we have to do one" after Capaldi's relatively sex free tenure, so I doubt it poses a serious problem.
