I suppose changing a role like Bond does require changing some of the masculine themes around him, although there are probably female equivalents of most of those themes.
However the Doctor hasn't got a lot of particularly masculine themes, he's not very macho or anything like that most of Doctor Who's themes revolve around his legacy and path of destruction behind him, as well as his status as defender of most of the damm universe.
