>>
>>84913125
For all its glaring faults I will concede that Robot of Sherwood was comfy viewing, and the Doctor and Robin Hood quibbling in the dungeon had some hilarious dialogue.

I'm not sure what your definition of comfy is though. For me it's wrapping myself up in a blanket and enjoying a nice, funny story that doesn't really bore or drag.
>>
>>84912903
My Dad used to wear a white suit when going to discos in the early 80s. He says it was a John Travolta/ Satiurday Night Fever fashion that kinda stuck around for awhile.

His friends nicknamed him 'The Persil Kid' at the time (Persil is a well known laundry washing product in the UK).
>>
>>84913310
i agree with your definition. i don't think it has to be funny though to be comfy. listen was pretty spooky and that was comfy viewing i thought.
>>
>>84913254
>>84913278
>>84913310
The episode was shite but Robin and Capaldi were great. Robin's camp overconfidence vs Capaldi's resolute denial of Robin's existence was fun to watch and their banter in the dungeon was great.
The rest though? Fuck me that was bad. Aliens were shit, Ben Miller was wasted on that episode, a golden arrow somehow gave the ship enough fuel to fuck off into the atmosphere? And then the Maid Marion reveal at the end. Just thinking about the episode makes me feel ill. But it did have some funny moments

My dad met Tom Baker when he was young. He won a local library competition designing an alien and the prize was meeting him. Doctor Who inspired him to go on to do design and influenced who he was as a person.

30 years later the renewed series did the same for me.

I love this series a lot, even if I forget that sometimes.

When I was younger, I went to a Doctor Who event at a local-ish (15 miles away) library. While they were setting up the main hall, they sat about 40 kids in a room and let them watch Rise of the Cybermen for a while.

When we came into the hall, Nick Briggs was sat at the top and spoke a lot about working on Doctor Who and then told us that they were going to do a little writing session, for some reason - they gave us half an hour to three-quarters to come up with a pre-title sequence + basic idea for a story. I don't even understand what the whole situation was about it, because when he chose the three winners (of which I wasn't one of which fucking annoyed me), there were no prizes given out or were told that something was gonna happen - they simply said "Right-o, there's some drink and food outside, go and have some".

I bet that fucker stole those 3 ideas and made them into fucking audio stories, the theiving cunt.

Even though just about all his episodes are bad, Gatiss is quite good with funny dialogue I feel. Like when 9 declares to Charles Dickens that he's a big fan and Dickens is like "in what way do you resemble a device for keeping one's self cool?". And though I loathe Victory of the Daleks, the moment a Dalek asks if the Doctor would like a cup of tea is classic.

Salt & Vinegar Walkers, definitely.
>>
As much as I like Eccleston and feel that being part of an anti-bullying campaign is a good and honourable thing to do, the examples he gave in that interview were hilariously poor. Kids on playgrounds are getting the shit kicked out of them, their things stolen, verbally abused etc all over the country, but Ecclestone was like
>I came from quite a rough neighbourhood, a girl would push me against a wall and make me do basic math sums
>I know it's absolutely horrifying and not a day goes by where I don't hate myself for doing it but I also ended up being a bully....(wipes a tear from his eye)...I demanded some crisps off a boy

It just made me think of Theresa May's "naughtiest moment" being "running through a wheat field". Like Eccleston was downplaying the bullying while he actually should've said something way more terrible to make people open their eyes and be more conscious and aware of bullying.

It's a stupid idea anyway. As if the general public wouldn't have typecast Marshall as the guy from Death in Paradise who wore Hawaiian shirts any way.
That aside, I do hope he gets a good outfit. I think it's time for something more daring after Capaldi's (admittedly great but simple) outfit. Not Colin Baker-tier or celery stick-tier, but something that stands out.

>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, 12/Bill “I'm a lesbian” Potts) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho
And free scenario prompts:
http://games.usvsth3m.com/drwho/

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

Been thinkin bout this. Pearl Mackie is a pretty girl when glammed up and without the afro hair.

It's almost as if she was made to look as unattractive as possible in the TV show. Little make up, her wild hair etc. Whereas Freema Agyeman was made up and coiffed to perfection.

Why?

It was an attempt to show the reality of lesbianism. Have you ever seen real lesbians? Not the the actresses they cast for tv or films, but actual lesbians? Most of them are fucking rank, man. And I'm not just talking about the stereotypical fat, butch, short spiky hair lesbians (but they definitely exist). Most lesbians do away with make-up and prettying themselves up because they don't need to attract a male. They wear plain sweatvests covered in their cat's hair.

It was enough to show us that she has pancake nipples and those don't magically change when seen from a different angle. It's a real shame and I feel sorry for all women with pancake nipples because you can't change them and all men find them repelling. It's their equivalent of having a micro-penis. >Have you ever seen real lesbians?

Fuck off. My cousin is lesbian. She enjoys looking 'sexy' because her wife likes her looking sexy.
>>
Given the wealth of ideas and the great writers that the Wilderness Years had, it's a bit of a pity that after RTD left the show stopped adapting EU stories (Dalek, Rise of the Cybermen, Human Nature) and hiring EU eriters (Gatiss, Shearman, Cornell, Moffat, Jones, Roberts).
>>
>>84915172
It's a shame to admit it because he's an amazing actor and I love his Doctor. But there's definitely been a decline in ratings and overall buzz around the show since he took over.

It doesn't say anything about Capaldi himself, it just shows how juvenile the average viewer is for not giving an older actor a chance. This is why you can bet your arm that the next Doctor will be a young and spunky Doctor as the BBC desperately tries to regain the popularity DW enjoyed during the Tennant and Smith eras.
>>
>>84915169
Am I supposed to be jealous that she's fucked three male actors?

Also, obviously Jenna is a very attractive woman and many men, including me, would want to have sex with her. I was just pointing out one flaw of her otherwise great body and expressing my sympathy to her. There's lots of beautiful women out there with ugly giant nipples and I feel sorry for them because you can't change them.
>>
>>84915390
Fans try to blame the writing but come on, even when Tennant and Smith had the most awful episodes in existence, they still had twice as many viewers as Capaldi's best.
>>

>Did Peter Capaldi almost kill the franchise?

No and yes. He could've been a very marketable Doctor if they gave him a better/more colourful costume and made him less of an asshole in Series 8. Also, if they focused on cool villains/monsters instead of all the character drama the Capaldi era seems to be about. However this is a reflection on how dumbed down the audience is, but then again DW should be a light and frothy Saturday night campfest.

When he was announced I was delighted - I pictured him in a corduroy jacket acting like a mad old professor. I anticipated his Doctor would be like Tom Baker, grinning, weird, and warm.

The problem with 12 was he was too cold to start with and he had an unlikable companion. He's GOAT with Nardole, but by that point no one was watching.

I think the 'killing of the franchise' happened before Capaldi though, around S6/7 time when it became 'romcom in space' and lost its magic

They aren't a flaw. I just watched the clip in the highest quality available, and her nipples look normal. They just seem odd because it's shot from an angle you usually don't see breasts from.

Her nipples aren't large, either. They're on the smaller side. You just made up that she's got disgusting nipples and said it's as bad as having a micropenis (which it really isn't. NOBODY likes a micropenis, whereas there's quite a few who would enjoy "pancake nipples" )

Watch the scene again. He nipples are pretty regular. Her tits sag a bit, but it's been 5 years since then so is it really a fair complaint?
>>
>>84914915
That's funny, but that wasn't actually my comment. I wouldn't post a fake nude of Clara.

>>84915095
>all men

Huh? She was still hot.
>>
>>84915581
True. It's not the writing, but it's not the acting either. It's simply the fact that Capaldi's an older man and the show lost a lot of regular viewers (or fake fans as I call them) who liked seeing a younger man they could sexualise.

>Her tits sag a bit, but it's been 5 years since then so is it really a fair complaint?
You seem to imply that saggy tits improve over time when the opposite is true.

>>84915704
Of course she's still hot. Repelling nipples aren't going to stop men from wanting to sleep with her. They're just repelling. Like, a girl undresses for you and when the bra comes off and reveal pancake nipples you'll have a moment of "shit, that's a shame", but you won't kick her out of the house, you'd still get on with it.

I admit that comparing it to having a micro penis isn't a fair comparison in hindsight because there's really not much you can do with that and even the most loving and caring girl in the world would have trouble accepting a penis the size of a pea.
>>
>>84915390
yup. exactly this. as much as I liked tennant he kind of killed the show since people expect doctor who to be like his era now. capaldi was different and people couldn't handle that. too bad, chibnall will probably be an executive meddling pandering mess. i really enjoyed capaldis era but sadly the general public didn't because they wanted muh young hot doctor. cunts.

what the fuck is wrong with pancake nipples
there's no big consensus about them you're just making that up

She's lost weight since then - her tits are smaller and so will probably appear to sag less. Plus I wouldn't mind betting she's had a bit of a boob job done.

There's literally nothing wrong with her nipples but this guy is probably annoyed that his are freakish so he's having a go at her to vent.
>>
>>84915985

Alright, I concede. I personally am disgusted by huge nipples and assumed men in general prefer smaller, perky nipples (all of my mates agree anyway).

I guess I'm just still disappointed by that clip because Jenna's gorgeous and I didn't like seeing those nipples which in my mind didn't flatter her much.

Apologies for de-railing the thread.

>>84916251
I guess if you look at it like that it has merit. I do love that the finales are more character focused and feel quite subversive in that they're not just about big end of the world scenarios. A lot of individual episodes just felt like a drain to watch - there's definitely loads of bad episodes in all of the Doctors' eras but I think the dull, bland cinematography exacerbates it really. Most of the time in Smith and Tennant's eras the bad episodes were still fun.
>>
>>84916352
She doesn't have the twinkle the other Doctors posses. She may be a good actor but she doesn't give off the feeling that she's the Doctor. Being cute isn't really a reason either.

The Capaldi era is the better part of Moffats era. I think it more have to do with people losing faith in Moffat after the Smith seasons.

And the problem is not that it have more character focus, but the fact that it is a focus on very shallow characters.

If Chibnall's first series as showrunner results in even lower ratings the BBC will have some serious discussions I imagine. But cancellation? No, I don't think so. Like anon said the DW brand is still quite big worldwide, it's become huge in America and even the Asians have started to become a huge part of the general audience.
Basically, the BBC had three huge programmes that were extremely popular worldwide. Doctor Who, Top Gear, and The Great British Bake Off. After Clarkson got kicked from Top Gear the show's seen a massive decline and is basically gone. Bake Off was insanely popular and dozens of countries all over the world bought the rights to make their own version. But now the BBC lost that show in its entirety, having been out-bid by another channel.
What I'm saying is, Doctor Who is the BBC's last remaining international, worldwide, money-making success. I imagine they will hold onto it with all their might. Cancellation won't even occur to them, it's suicide. But if Chibnall's first series really does provide even lower ratings they'll have to do something. Advertising, more merchandise, maybe even a new showrunner after just one series. They can't lose Doctor Who.

This is how DW's viewership changed. The rate of kiddies peaks in Smith's first series and from there it always goes down. Also from S6, the rate of male to female viewers goes slightly up.

I was still in uni during Smith's run and my class was full of Doctor Who fans and we always talked about the show. They all loved the show, especially Tennant and Smith and watched it every week.
Then Peter Capaldi was announced and the next day everyone was disappointed with the decision to cast an older man (especially female fans). Once his first series started airing, most of them resolutely decided not to watch out of principle. The ones that did watch, stopped watching after a few weeks.

I've seen first-hand how the casting of an older actor made many people drop the show entirely even though they watched it religiously for years. It's incredibly shallow but it's true, and I imagine many other people stopped tuning in for that exact same shallow reason.

Getting rid of the kid audience would be worse than even that. The reason Who survived so long is because each generation grew up on Who. The moment the younger generation no longer cares about Doctor Who, then Who will suffer. Kids aren't the only audience, but they are an important one. We need them to care about the show.

Look at the numbers, very few younglings watch the show. It would probably be more popular if it aimed for people in the age 30-50
>>
>>84917640
I think part of the problem is that, over the seven years since Moffat took over, they've never made a real attempt to grab 'the next generation of kids'. They probably did with Smith and Eleventh Hour, but those kids grew up with that era of the show, then Capaldi came along and it didn't really reach out to kids again; it didn't try to be accessible to more new kids. It's like the show just carried on being made for the already-fans who were going on to be teenagers, late teens, etc.

Because faggots like you are too beta to talk to them

To be fair, I blame that on RTD, who cast Tennant based on his sexiness and tricking female viewers into seeing a show that they weren't interested in. But of course, the BBC was loving all the attention and promoting Who as its flagship franchise, not knowing that RTD had actually made a drama/soap opera and not actually Doctor Who.

Obviously when RTD and Tennent bailed, Moffat and the BBC were forced to basically keep catering to this audience because they were supporting the show. After 3 seasons and the BBC forcing him on Moffat basically said fuck-all and did whatever the hell he wanted - casting Capaldi, making this an actual sci-fi fantasy, etc.

Now that the BBC are concerned by the fact that Who isn't catering to the teen audience they're basically forcing Chibnall to do the same thing.
>>
>>84917640
Exactly. The children watching today grow up to be the parents that introduce their children to the show. The fact that the children aren't watching is bad and they need to address that.

Capaldi Era is the only NuWho Era that doesn't feel like Doctor Who to me (and I say this as someone who admittedly joined the show with RTD but who's also watched all the classic stuff and prefers the classic stuff!)

>>
>>84917878

Eccleston era was a drama. There were very little sci-fi concepts. It was basically about a man returning from a war, suffering from PTSD, and this girl who helps him recover.

The fact that time travel was involved, let alone making him the Doctor - were just cosmetics.

This is actually why Eccleston left BTW - he thought he was making something serious, and that had to deal with farting monsters.

>not knowing that RTD had actually made a drama/soap opera and not actually Doctor Who
This is bullshit. RTD made Doctor Who, the same way every other producer has. They all just have different ideas. JNT's Doctor Who is a world apart from RTD's, and Moffat's is a word away from Lambert's, but they're all Doctor Who.

>RTD made Doctor Who, the same way every other producer has.

No, he didn't. Hell, the reason why NuWho exists IS because RTD intentionally made Doctor Who different than any other producer. It was billed as a serious drama, and at its core about a man recovering from PTSD. The only reason why this has been attached to Who is because RTD wrote it that way - and no other producer, not even Moffat or Big Finish, has dared to touch the concepts/characterizations that RTD did with Nine/Ten.

RTD's Who is a far from Who as you can - you can replace the Doctor with any other time-traveler and the TARDIS with any other time machine and it would still work. You can't do that to any other era.
>>
>>84916783

I stopped watching during Smith because the show was shit. I'm interested in checking it out again now that Moffat is gone.
>>
>>84918048
Yep. They went out of production a while back so a good quality used or a new one will set you back a bit. Don't go for used ones though, they have tonnes of annoying problems - the "Pull to Open" door is spring-loaded and over time becomes harder to close properly so that the interior sounds stop.

If you translate the percentages into actual figures that gives you, from series 4 to series 8:
4-15: 1.76m to 0.4m
16-45: 3.6m to 1.95m
46+: 3.25m to 2.7m

Moffat kept the older viewers, more or less. He lost 3 million between children and in-betweens.

If Eccleston had stayed, I imagine he would've been written accordingly. I think Eccleston has even said he didn't quite nail the comedy how he wanted to, and would've enjoyed doing more.

If it's One, I'd be scared. Is this some sort of joke?

If it's Two, definitely. He knew how to have a fun time.

If it's Three, same thing. Might be groovy.

If it's Four, he might drag me in whether I say no or yes.

If it's Five, I might say no. His life is hard.

If it's Six, it would depend whether it's early Six, or later Six.

If it's Seven, I say yes. I fully believe that it would be part of a scheme.

If it's Eight, I say yes instantly. He's so lovable.

If it's War...I might say yes. Or maybe not.

If it's Nine, definitely.

If it's Ten, I message Edge and tell him to meet me somewhere.

If it's Eleven, certainly. Eleven is one of my favorites.

If it's Twelve, yes.

If it's Thirteen, in the body of Kris Marshall, I scream a loud refusal.

If it's Thirteen, in the body of Natalie Dormer, I blush, and then say yes.

I think these posts say more about how juvenile and dumbed down the fans are than anything else.

>In reality, the decline has been modest. David Tennant's run averages out at 7.77 million viewers; Matt Smith at 7.55 million; and Peter Capaldi, so far, at 7.1 million – although 2015's series 9 did see a big drop from series 8's 7.4 million to 6.71 million; one defended by post-8pm scheduling, poor promotion and the fact that, after 12 years, Doctor Who is no longer event television. Whatever the case, it's strange that Moffat is so synonymous with tanking the show when, under his watch, it has become such an international hit, with global viewing figures now recorded at around 70 million.

I'd jump at the chance, obviously. Who wouldn't? I mean sure, travelling with the Doctor can be extremely dangerous because every episode we see there's a deadly threat. But you're forgetting the nice parts where you just go sightseeing in space, travel back in time to see stuff, go on vacation etc. They do that all the time and without any dangerous monsters, but we never see that because it would make for boring television.
>>
>>84918187
>Could you imagine him doing any of the shite that RTD made Tennant did in S2?
The swimming pool scene between the Doctor and the Krillitane headmaster feels like it was written for Eccleston tbf, as do some of the lines in Impossible Planet.

>>84918222
Are you implying that Doctor Who has to reference itself a lot to 'be Doctor Who'? If so, utter nonsense. And you're overlooking the fact RTD did chuck classic stuff into his era too (arguably the biggest thing being Sarah Jane's return)

She was in Broadchurch, hence why they connect her to being 13. Also the "safe" alternate choice for woman doc - prettier than Olivia Coleman, not as expensive as Hayley Atwell, and just as weird as Tilda Swanton

>The swimming pool scene between the Doctor and the Krillitane headmaster feels like it was written for Eccleston tbf, as do some of the lines in Impossible Planet.

It does. I can't see Eccleston doing something like The Girl in the Fireplace or Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, though.

>Are you implying that Doctor Who has to reference itself a lot to 'be Doctor Who'?

The best Who for me is when it builds on its mythos/continuity and makes it more interesting and dramatic.

Examples being Holmes/Hinchcliffe era with Genesis/Lonely Assassin, S25/26, early Big Finish, and the good Moffat episodes.

SJ was good in S2 but I don't know why they made SJA at all.

RTD's Who was really good televison but I don't know if it was good Who.
>>
>>84918444
I think Moffat's recently pandered the show towards fans too much, and given that Capaldi himself is a huge fan... I think the 'less is more' approach that RTD took was the better route.
>>
>>84918470

No it wasn't, the novels did this ten years ago before he started with the Eighth Doctor. RTD just basically adapated it to televison.

References to the old series should be few and far between because when they are overabundant, it ruins the novelty.

>SJ was good in S2 but I don't know why they made SJA at all.

Because of the main show's popularity, and I assume they just wanted to ride the wave of popularity. Torchwood failed (until S3) but that was the 'adult' show, and SJA was more for the 'kiddies' (although imo was still as good for adults on occasion).

>RTD's Who was really good televison but I don't know if it was good Who.

See, this is interesting. We all have very different ideas of what Doctor Who "should be", and you've opened a can of worms. We'll end up (probably) agreeing to disagree but I'm intrigued. I think similar about Moffat: it's good TV but not good Who, IMO.
>>
>>84918492

Yeah, which is why I'm excited about Chibnall; he's not a fanatic like RTD/Tennant/Moffat/Capaldi so I think he'll actually contribute to the mythos instead of referencing it.

Can you provide examples? I feel like the Time War and the Last of the Time Lords shtick did more to do that than anything Moffat's introduced - I mean, what has he introduced? Nano-daleks and nano-cybermen? I'm not necessarily criticising his writing, it's just that as far as serialised drama/ lore-building goes, nothing seems to survive longer than an episode - the Dalek Parliament, the Daleks apparently having a speech filter that forces them to be evil, etc.

Interesting. Which Moffat episodes is which for you? For me, most of S1 was good Who, and things like Midnight, Journey's End or Doomsday was good televison.

Empty Child is brilliant, glorious Doctor Who. As is The Eleventh Hour, The Beast Below and The Pandorica Opens. But most of his other stuff just doesn't do it for me, but lots of his other stuff is good-great TV. (Probably hasn't helped that a lot of his ideas have been paralleled/used in Sherlock too, rendering them feeling like he just has ideas that could fit any show rather than just the Doctor Who mould)
