This film had surprisingly good lore.
I will say however that at certain points the backgrounds like the sea and beach look so realistic that the characters in them look like deformed people, its quite creepy at times, the mix of realism and exagerrated charcters.

I liked the movie but it felt very disjointed, like it's just a couple random set pieces that aren't connected. We go from comfy island to coconut pygmys to weird crab lair to angry island god thing and there feels like little connecting any of them. Which story wise there really isn't.

There were some other things in the realm of monsters. Just didn't show them very long. That thing with a mask was creepy as hell.

the part where she was little and helps the turtle to the sea sold me from the beginning

and the fact that her grandma is reincarnated as a fucking manta ray is awesome. I love mantas, and I wish more films could depict the sea and the creatures in it that way
