So the "Master" was actuallysexor maybe women, right? Not to ignore the literal interpretation of PSH being the master of Joaquin Phoenix. That's what I felt at least. Also, I really liked this movie way more the second time I watched it.
It was a crappy film that tried too hard to be deeper.
The master was his wife, by the way.

>if you find a way to live without a Master, you'd be the first person in history to do so
That's all you need to understand. Best movie of the 2010s so far
freddie was the id
dodd was the ego
peggy was the superego
Joaquin Phoenix is the Dionysian archetype and Phillip Seymour Hoffman the Apollonian one, read some Nietzsche and the movie is even a little on the nose about it. Don't thank me plebs

>looking for a DEEP meaning in a PTA flick
Why do burgershits do this?

the wife just represented the idea that every person has some overriding issue/problem/quirk/addiction but she had very little to do with the themes of the movie

The Master is all the things we let control us. Whether it's a church, a woman, or even the concept of propriety. Eventually, we have to cede control to something. Joaquin refused to be controlled, so he was perpetually unable to fit in.
