S10 had a couple rough episodes, primarily the Monks thing, but the finale and some stand-alone episodes made up for it
S8 started out lackluster, I didn't like grumpy Doc at first, but it also had some great episodes like Mummy, Flatline and Kill the Moon (which I loved)
S9 was held back by its persistence to stick to two-parters, meaning that if you didn't like the story, that's two whole episodes you're gonna dislike. The series opener and the "Under the Lake/Before the Flood" stories were great but after that every single episode was terrible with the exception of Heaven Sent which might be the greatest NuWho episode yet.

I know I'm in the minority about liking Kill the Moon but I really enjoyed it. Loved the spiders, loved the moral dilemma and the way they made good use of the grumpy, less-approachable Doctor (leaving Clara alone to make the choice), and the little black girl wasn't even that annoying and that's saying something.

Can't argue that the moon hatching and being replaced by a perfect copy of itself was a bit of a half-arsed ending but I can look past it and just assume it's part of that alien's biological structure, however unlikely it seems when compared to biology as we knew it. But fuck it, it's alien.

Anyway I went into Eaters of Light with semi-low expectations. The trailer didn't hype me at all and I felt like it was going to be a quick "filler" episode before the grand finale. And it turned out to be pretty bad in my opinion. The monster design wasn't great, nor were the effects. I didn't like the story resolving with the Romans and the Picts becoming buddies and sacrificing themselves. Just a really forgettable episode for me, apart from one or two jokes like "Death by Scotland?!" and Bill being ridiculed by the Romans for only having sex with women instead of just fucking anything.

I really like historical episodes and I love it when they tackle a real-world mystery like the disappearance of the Roman 9th Legion (when will we finally get a Bermuda Triangle story?!). Like the Agatha Christie episode where they explained her real-life disappearance of 9 days that was never explained in real life.

But this one? Just felt a bit lackluster to me. Could've been better. I think some anons were especially excited about the writer because she wrote Survival. Anyway, yeah, not really a highlight episode of the series for me. I was secretly hoping for a Utopia-esque super reveal at the end but it was just a short talk with Missy, leading up to the finale.

Also, I hesitated at Big Finish because I once listened to The Chimes of Midnight years ago and even though it was great, I somehow never got back into BF so in the end I didn't click it.

I really really want them to do another Heaven Sent, but with two Doctors. No villains, no side characters, just a full hour of only 1 and 12 talking. I don't see how they could make that work, and I doubt that they'll do it anyway because the Christmas Specials are usually somewhat lighter in tone and aimed (even more) towards children audiences, who would probably not enjoy or be able to sit still for an entire hour of two old men talking.

That's not that weird. I don't think we'll ever have an American actor play the Doctor, unless he does a flawless English accent.
And the actors they usually pick are from the UK, slightly famous (except Smith who was pretty much a nobody at that point), but not too famous because the budget wouldn't handle it.
So any British celebrities you might know of are very unlikely to become the next Doctor simply because if the average American knows about them, they're probably pretty high-profile already and thus too expensive.
The only exception maybe was Peter Capaldi who's had a long career. Out of interest, had you heard of him before he was cast as the Doctor?

Waters of Mars was the best out of the Specials and a great episode in general. I love a good base-under-siege story in Who and the villains and scenarios were pretty creepy, what with everyone getting killed off one by one by coming into contact with water.
Time Lord Victorious is really like marmite. You either love it or you hate it. I personally loved seeing Tennant go against all the rules he lives by and going back to save the people even though he isn't supposed to. And then him seeing the consequences of his actions, the woman going into her house and killing herself with her gun. The Ood waiting for him at the end of the street as the Doctor realises he was wrong and that his end is near.

when i was against a female doctor, it was just how i navigated an older, largely male fanbase. i didn't want to be the whiny little girl who wanted to see a "girlpower" character. i think this happens a lot, women in sci-fi fandoms trying to downplay their gender to fit in. im not trying to generalize though, only 3 women have responded so far, and i cant speak for the other two. it's likely that they just see the doctor as a very masculine role and think it would just be a bad casting choice
