i think its because of two reasons that Moana is so underrated
1. Racism. Yeah i know this is gonna sound SJW as fuck but historically only one disney princess that wasnt white has found any sort of sucess and that was Mulan. Disney started to fear that Moana was starting to appear way to similar to The Little Mermaid formula, and people would notice so they ended up redesigning the Rooster as an idiot that worked for comic relief, and they decided to leave the pig off the adventure all together to avoid the Flounder/ Sebastian comparisons.

I still feel cheated though. I wanted to see more of that little pig. It's false advertising at its lowest. They are trying to sucker people into the theaters with the promise of Disney's next cute , adorable princess sidekick, but the pig is nothing more than a false flag.

You are comparing two films that were released almost two full decades apart from each other. Also Disney was in a very different slump in the early to late 2000s. Most fairy tale films that have come out after 2013 have done well thanks to Frozen re energising Disney animation, and the Disney Prinesses line as a whole.

Tangled had to follow the dark shit fest that was The Black Frog Princess movie. That shit just wasn't fair.
