Middle school teacher here. This movie is on point. I teach US history (useless I know) at a Portland HS.

Modern school cliques are pretty much

Black males on the absolute top. They're the coolest of the cool, everyone wants them or to be in their clique. Usually dominate sports as well. If a black "acts white" he will be demoted a few tiers though.

Next you have the people with large social media presences, the instagram whores, etc.. Social media is the currency of today. Facebook is dead, instagram is normie, you really want a large following on twitter and snapchat.

Next are the many, many people who claim to be gay, transgender, or have some other "quirk" (though many are also in the above category). About 53% of people under the age of 17 today identify as something other than cis, compared to 13% in 2004.

Next are the reddit nerds. They wear anime shirts and like The Force Awakens/Marvel. Being a "nerd" is extremely cool, but only a certain kind. Marvel is cool, star wars is cool, classic shonen anime like DBZ/Naruto is cool. DC, star trek, warhammer 40k, nerdy stuff after the 90s, etc are however still decisively NOT COOL.

Next are the drama/art students. They were top tier in the High School Musical-era craze but have fallen considerably.

Next are the non-black traditional athletes/jocks. Interestingly, they will become more popular in HS as the kids start to hit puberty and want their dicks. However before about 8th grade they're pretty low tier these days.

Next you have the "jesus freaks" and white trash. They are mocked mercilessly and the only victims of genuine bullying from what I've seen.

At the very bottom are the neckbeards & aspergers guys, usually very disgruntled and bitter kids who spout memes, wear pepe shirts (I've seen this), and say edgy things like that they support Trump.

The depiction of the hierarchy in SM: Homecoming is on point. Pajeet has a large social media presence which he funds with his money.

The same thing happened to me, by the time I was a sophomore in HS and 6' with classmates all my height or around it, the freshman all were 5'9" or under and never underwent any growth spurts. I chalk it up to the hormone filled milk that I drank growing up, I was old enough to have missed the surge of organic foods and my parents reasoned that if I'd made it to 9 and my sister 13 with non organics then we'd be fine the rest of the way.

As someone who started junior high in 2003, everybody now would get killed by the games we used to play.
