didn't get enough big mech fights and the final fag angel sucked
also the mc was obnoxious in the way his development was becoming more of a baby backed bitch

I rewatched it recently and it takes its time to get going. The Shinji/Rei teamup with the giant rifle is the first really good episode then it's pretty much all great once Asuka shows up. I do find the start a bit of a slog.

The show and the movie were the same - the first half as good and then nothing happened in the second half
