If season 9 was the first season when The Simpsons were beginning to run out of steam then season 10 was when the train came to a full stop.

In seasons 11-12, they attached super-wacky rocket boosters in an effort to make it go again, but they were so powerful that the train derailed.

Basically this. The show died with Maude.
The movie was a nice little farewell, and it was the very last time I ever watched the Simpsons.
In my mind, the show is already over. I've accepted it.
Everything past that point never happened.

The Simpsons
>Ending

It'll finally get canceled on a whim when Fox decides it's not making them enough money. Then the writers will try to write up some half-assed ending and rush it out.

The final episode will be an hour long, and it'll be full of outrageous shit. Marge will be cuckolding Homer with every single celebrity guest that's ever been on the show (Even the dead ones), with the entire episode just being Marge getting fucked one by one while Homer just sits in the corner, crying as he jerks off and eats a sandwich.

The B-plot will be Lisa becoming transgender, then kicking Bart in the balls nonstop. No cutaways or anything, it's literally just Lester (FtM Lisa) kicking Bart in the balls while screaming about he needs to check his cis white male privilege. Every single person in Springfield will take her side, especially the celebrity guests who are fucking Marge.

It ends with the Simpsons insulting its viewers for being such fucking idiots for continuing to keep them on the air, then they all have an incestuous orgy right in the middle of the living room before vomitting all over each other and slicing their throats. Dr Nick pokes his head in and says "BYE EVERYBODY!", because "LOL REMEMBER WHEN THAT JOKE WAS RELEVANT? XD". Also, he's getting raped by Moe right outside the Simpsons house.

The next 40 minutes are just the writers giving up: videos of them shitting on each other, having a huge orgy while covered in shit, footage of people getting shot in the head, footage of babies being skinned alive and fucked, etc. You name it, they have it all. The final 10 minutes are just Matt Groening high as balls on every drug imaginable, screaming into the camera about how much he hates his life before pulling out a shotgun and blowing his fucking brains out all over the wall. Then it ends, with no credits, context or anything.

It'll end up being so viewed and talked about, that it renews The Simpsons for another 10 seasons.

Tale of Two Skinners was the point they went off the rails, any residual laughs were just a byproduct of the love we had for the characters, then when they abandoned the original art for flash garbage there was nothing left to watch it for. all the talent was long gone by then.

i think it is generally understood that what kept the series fresh up until around S10-ish was their rule not to allow a showrunner for longer than a couple seasons at a time. I think other smaller contributing factors were involved as well, like new laws about smoking indoors which drove schwarzwelder out of the writing room and even pushed him to buy an entire bar building just so he could smoke and drink in peace
>>
>>84594936
I thought the plan was to end it at S30.
>>
I feel as though season 13 was the last season of classic Simpsons. Season 15 had some of my favorite episodes of the Simpsons though and the Treehouse of Horror episodes are almost always great. The show truly went to shit a few seasons before the movie came out but it definitely had a silver age from season 10 to about season 16.

That depends what you mean by "kwisis"...

I am considering watching Simpsons. I watched Futurama and I loved it during my teens, but Simpsons somehow missed me.

Seen few random episodes, liked the general humor and characters, which is miles better than shitty family guy and other copycats.

But the first season, while watchable, is way too slow and it fells like driving the first Ford. Solid foundations etc, but its way too ancient if you are used to modern cars.

tl;dr: which seasons are considerd to be golden age of Simpsons so I can watch it?
>>
>>84599044
I would say it's worth watching the first two seasons but season 3 to 8 is generally considered the golden years.
Season 9 has it's moments.
Most of Season 10 and Season 11 are bad and anything beyond there is absolute trash.
>>
>>84599044
I'm a little drunk so you I might be fudging the figures by a season or two but
3-6 are God-tier, 7-8 (or 9) are great, after that it's a slow progression to the terrible mid-teens. After that point I don't even fucking know because it is a zombie franchise now with occasional moments of intelligence
>>
>>84592926
It would have actually been a very touching ending with a simple rewrite if the show ended on the death of Maude, how Ned dealt with that, how Homer saw good in Ned and finally the two families got together in happiness. Ofc you can still have Homer do something selfish in the end or rude but in a charmingly aww that Homer kinda way.

People would have thought that was the best show of all time.
>>
>>84597320
>their rule not to allow a showrunner for longer than a couple seasons at a time

What? Also wouldn't that just cause more change?

Rewatching old Simpsons in my late 20s revealed a few things to me. The show was already starting to go bad as early as season 6.

Sam Simon should have never left.

Doubt. They already have audio splicing technology so advanced that Fox will still continue to churn out episodes by the time Groening's grandchildren's grandchildren are decomposing in their graves.

Season 1 of The Simpsons is max feels. It's an entirely different show - a series that wants to be cinematic rather than a cartoon.

Reminder that Fox will keep the Simpsons going for another 40 years despite how shit the show could get

Although there have been some recent episodes which are okay. Barthood isn't one of them though, that rushed in to much shit right at the end so it had zero impact.

Advertisers are still willing to pay huge sums to advertise during the Simpsons, but the real money comes from t-shirts, merchandising rights especially in South America and India where the Simpsons is mega popular for some reason.

Because it marked a drastic change in the style of humour it was previously known and loved for.

If you like season 9 its because you were a child when it aired, or you're too low intelligence to see what changed.

Season 7 is where they began running out of steam.

Season 10 is a full shift away from classic Simpsons and started common tropes, like episodes focused on celebrities and travel episodes.

Don't complain, Spongebob only lasted 3 seasons and 1 movie before becoming instant garbage. Not even the grace of a steady decline, it just flatlined at S4. Not a coincidence that S4 was when the movie happened and had an episode literally called "SELLOUT" where Krabs realizes spongebob is marketable and whores him out for business.

when they started attaching previously unforshadowed and unmentioned backstories onto established characters most people recognized that as the moment they didn't know where to take the show or cast anymore. In the following seasons they retconned Homer and Marge's teen/college years like three fucking times to push agenda shit, like Marge suddenly being super gay in college for NO reason at all

How do you even end this show?

I can understand everyone hating zombie Simpsons, but even if they took the opportunity to finish it after s9 what could they have done?
>>
>>84595202
The animation is stale and rigid. If they want to stand out, they should return to classic animation.

They also needed continuity and aging to have more story options. I don't care if it changes what the simposons is because they died years ago. Some ideas are worth exploring for more than 22 minutes. When great one-off characters return now it seems cheap. A whole season in the future would be a welcome change. Once the static characters on the simpsons had been totally explored it became shit. And homers brother, hank scorpio, and so many others could have great season archs devoted to them. They could have died with dignity like seinfeld and 30 Rock but now they need to have a true revitalization to be remembered for anything other than 9 good years

Personally, I think that while 10 gets more and more season 11-ish towards the end, a lot of it seems pretty season 9-ish, and many people (myself included) consider 9 to be classic or at least semi-classic. Plus, I do think that 10 is a bit funnier overall than season 11, and it's got the last appearance of Phil Hartman and the last really good Halloween episode. So I can sorta see why some people consider it the last classic season, and to be fair, most people who call it part of the classic era still consider it weaker than most/all of the seasons before it.

Personally, I wouldn't call it classic because it has some pretty bad episodes in it, but there's plenty of stuff in it that I do enjoy.
