Kino or Criterion?
Which has a better/wider selection?
Which has the better restoration process?
Which has the better supplements?

Criterion has more obscure titles and better restoration. Both are good though.
>>

Kino restoration process is complete shit. Criterion will scan a film in 4K going frame by frame adjusting colors and removing scratches with the supervision of the director, DoP or their next of kin. Meanwhile Kino has been embarrassing themselves with the The Good The Bad and The Ugly "remaster" where they reused the controversial yellow filter video master from MGM and weren't even aware there were complaints until autists brought it up on Facebook. Even then they didn't perform a new scan, they're just slightly removed the amount of yellow through basic color correction.

Kino has more limited selection, but arguably has more historically significant films. Criterion has many more films, many mediocre, but generally more relevant, entertaining and culturally significant.

Kino uses cheap ass blu-ray cases and have lazy box art. Criterion uses sturdy, thick and clear Scanovo cases or digipaks with specially commissioned art from top-tier graphic designers.

Criterion always tries to issue brand new special features. Kino will pretend subtitles are a special feature.

>Criterion uses sturdy, thick and clear Scanovo cases
>tfw Thin Red Line blu ray arrived with the box fucking battle-broken
>>
>>84567182
That's because the movie had a war theme you colossal pleb
>>
>>84566611
Is this even a question? Criterion is much better and has way better releases than Kino.
>>
>>84566611
Kino for meme value. That shits exponential.
>>
Criterion has major quality control issues nowadays, regardless of comparison to another licensees. Look at the Criterion release of Straw Dogs for example, bland oversaturation with obvious black crush.

Arrow is better than both.

Kino release stuff you'll never see with a criterion logo, like 70s cheap horror erotic french movies starring pornstars
>>
>>84566611
Criterion does not restore, they buy licenses to restored copies via Janus films.

Criterion for Hipsters

Kino for real cinephiles

Arrow encodes are always better.

Criterion does not know to encode. Their bitrates will be higher but still lacks detail compared to Arrow.

Criterion is literally hipster shit with meme design covers. Arrow is the real kinomaster

Arrow?
>>
what the fucking hell are you guys talking about

t. pleb
>>
The one thing I like about Kino over Criterion is that they will just use the original poster art for the blu ray. Some of Criterions designs are really nice, but others I'm just like use the fucking original poster art.

Filmstruck has both- lots of Criterion extras including interviews, features, commentary. If this were a film board it would be a popular service.
>>
>>84568431
>hipster
Wanna go ahead and explain why?
>>
>>84566611
>tfw on private trackers were the autists will actually combine two different encodes to make a superior copy of the film (restoration wise)
>tfw they will research every single copy of the film then encode the best one so I just have to click the one that's most downloaded for the best copy
>tfw they do this for free
feels so good
>>
>>84571205
What trackers are these?
