William Hartnell IS Doctor fucking Who, it ceases to amaze me that when anybody describes the first doctor their singular response is crotchety, or grouchy as if these attributes are enough to qualify as a whole character, if they bother to actually watch the show with him in it they could see moments of brevity, and depth and humor with a range of emotions beyond the press kit of fan guides and "doctor who in 3 minutes" youtube videos, he's not just some old geezer who trips on his lines (thought that's fun in itself) he's an adept explorer of the universe, he's not on any mission to right wrongs, he's just out there to discover and learn like a Jules Verne creation, not the bloated super doctor he would later become. Most importantly the simplicity of not knowing where he came from made him an enigma, you didn't have to know where he came from or why he left just as long as you enjoyed the adventures that he went on.

No other Doctor knew how to play to the camera as well as Hartnell did. Every frame of his visual performance oozes Doctor Who.

I still enjoy Troughton and Pertwee just a wee bit more though.

I don't have issues per se with Hartnell being racist, because:

1. It's still only hearsay and I like to pretend I can't hear/read it and it isn't true. Bear in mind that his first work as the Doctor was to be on screen with a Jewish girl, directed by a homosexual Indian.

2. The cunt was from a different time. He would have had his first wank in the 1920s. To teen Hartnell, rebellion against the older generation was doing the Charleston.

3. On screen, he represented a man who was anything but, and pushed out messages of positivity and understanding.

4. By all accounts, he wouldn't say it to your face. Not saying that makes it right, but at least the codger had the grace to be polite about it.

5. He's a funny fucker. This is crucial. Jon Pertwee is about as funny as finding a lump in your testicle, or blood in your urine. He's terminally, atrociously unfunny, and a pompous, entitled cock (Third Doctor is one of my favorites but, if you don't want your view of the actor who played him tarnished stay away from behind the scenes videos, writings, and convention panel videos of him during the 80's) . Whereas if I were to meet Hartnell and he went "So, you're blag, er, black, hmmmm? That's not legitimate." I'd probably think "that's a bit offensive, mate" but also "lol".

Shame the puddle-girl was still a terrible actor. Pearl Mackie deserved a better send-off. Capaldi is, to my mind, the best Doctor since Tom Baker and will be sorely missed.

On the plus side, it could have been worse. I was expecting Bill's dead mother to appear in the sky Teletubbie-style and save the day.

Missy may (or may not) have been the final incarnation of the Master, but that doesn't mean Simm was the one before her. Just watched it and it was fucking amazing. Finally, Moffat manages to make a two-part finale where the second part wasn't absolutely dreadful.
The start especially was amazing. Simm and Gomez on the roof with the Doctor chained up. Simm was being his amazing Master self again and I loved it.

However, after that Simm was being criminally underused and is now basically confirmed not to ever come back again.
Also, is this really the end for the Master/Missy as a character? Simm said Missy shouldn't bother regenerating because she got hit "full blast". There's always a chance that there's incarnations between Simm and Gomez after all. Or the Cybermen find Missy and fix her up a bit and she gets the power to regenerate again. Moffat's basically killed the character off in a definite way, but still left it open for the future, should showrunners decide to bring the character back.
