>be first at something
>because you were first other companies will hire you because you area less risky investment
>get more experience keep getting more roles
>eventually called the master of my trade simply because no studio will take a risk on someone else

When is this shit going to end? Just because someone is first doesn't make them the best. It just makes them lucky. Let others try a shot at this shit.

Did Serkis roger your ol' mum up her chunder box or what guv?
>>
>>84460372
I guarantee you I could do a job as good as him if given the chance if not better. I can contort my body in different ways then he can giving more depth to characters.
>>
>>84460409
That's not what gives depth to the characters you fucking jabroni
>>
>>84460444
Yes it is. It literally is. Control of your body is the #1 part of his job.
>>
>>84460503
Understanding the characters and creating an appropriate and consistent form of movement is key, being able to contort to accommodate the needs that occur as a result of that is important but ability to contort your body in different ways than Andy Serksis alone is not what brings the characters to life
>>
>>84460836
>i have to relate with a dragon or Jedi monster

just stop
>>
>>84460881
that's why they hire him and not you
>>
>>84461039
they hire him because he did a handful of roles and economically it makes sense to the studio since he is experienced. As someone who has worked in this field before it's all about your body movements and the special effects. You can literally fucking watch videos of him in action and he doesn't do anything special other than body contortions.
>>
>>84460881
>I don't respect the roles but I can do a backwards roll so I would be better in them

huh
>>
>>84460336

When will the Serkis "acting" meme end? I love how seriously he takes jumping around on his hands and knees.
>>
>>84461493
You retards aren't in he industry so you don't fucking get it. It's not important to relate to a dragon. It's important to move as one. All the acting and shit is handled by the voice actor and any facial manipulation by the special effects team.
>>
Can you swim in freezing water with nothing protecting you such as when he was gollum in the Lord of the Rings extras? Didnt think so OP.
>>
Andy Serkis is a great actor regardless so quit your whining
>>
The part no one will admit to is that his performance doesn't translate as much to the final product as you think it does. It gets very heavily interpreted by the animators.

The CG animators deserve as much credit as he does.
>>
>>84461538
In order to do an outstanding job of moving like one you have to understand how it could move, which is the first half of the role before you get suited up and pretend to be a dragon.
Contortion is only necessary once you're at the stage of understanding how you're going to be contorting; it's not enough by itself - especially not if you aim to be the best. You need to develop a convincing language if you're going to make the movements consistent and believable, and if you act as though there are character that don't deserve the respect of that then you're not going to be better than him no matter how bendy you are.

Also you may not be responsible for voice acting or animation but movement reflects personality even if it is a dragon, especially in a franchise where dragons have personalities. Your movement needs to match the concept of the character not just "dragon".
>>
>>84461809
How the fuck do you relate to a dragon? Tell me? Do you go to caves and live among them and pick up their quirks? Where is this cave by the way?

Maybe because hes amazing at it and created gollum when Peter and everyone thought it would be a cgi character and he would just do the voice. He then kills it in king kong and is still getting roles.

If you watch the making of the lord of the rings you will see why he still gets work he kills himself out there, losing his voice almost every day (especially on king kong)
>>
Guy that has his own motion capture studio and has been involved with movies that have made millions of dollars or some Joe nobody that is complaining on a porn site. Hmm, I wonder why they go with Andy.
>>
>>84461937
They hand-pick shots that are perfectly matched for marketing purposes, but the majority are augmented by animators
>>
Serkis is a master of his craft, shit, I think Jackson made him second director or something on the Hobbit movies. He knows what he is doing.
>>
>>84462100

He did.
>>
>>84461866
The same way we relate to characters in animated movies
>>
>>84461866
What's the intent? Is it supposed to be primal and aggressive, defensive, timid, old, lame, young, inquisitive. Is it heavyset, clumsy, elegant? What environment does it live in? Sentient or not? Intelligent? How is it interacting in the scene?
Imagine how its character traits and physiology combine. How a gait changes based on personality and physicality is observable within humans, extrapolate that to a different creature with different basic movement to modify those movements accordingly.

You don't just "act like a human" when acting, why would you think "move like a dragon" is going to yield good results when there are all sorts of different characterizations of dragons throughout media.

Writing a role off because you think it's dumb shit is a surefire way to ensure it is just dumb shit, and certainly not the way to usurp the industry's leading studio.
>>
>>84462322
we don't.
>>
>>84462053
Everything in the movie business is augmented and a team effort.
Your point is?
>>
Serkis is actually really good.
>>
>>84462100
>I think Jackson made him second director or something on the Hobbit movies.

That's the polar opposite of a compliment
>>
>>84462478
My point is that marketing Any Serkis' skill as a genius mocap actor is a great way to drum up publicity for a movie, but it's a dishonest representation of how the character ultimately comes together. Also, Andy Serkis contributes to this cult of personality by taking as much credit as possible for his mocap work, giving very little props to the technical and animator skilled laborers who create the final product. It's about these people "translating his brilliance," not co-creating it, which they are.

>be first at something
>because people didn't like it no other company will hire you
>do the same thing many years later when the technique has been perfected
>people will applaud you for being the first and won't give credit to the people who invented it

When is this shit going to end? Just because somebody got popular while doing something which has been done before doesn't make them the inventor. It just makes them lucky. Let the real people who tried it first get the credit.

Ok good point. You think he has a bloated ego like so many "stars"?
On the other hand i am a 3d artist, i know what goes into creating such a virtual character.
Having an acted performance is like 90% of the actual performance, even if these guys have to recreate a lot of it manually.
I don't know how accurate modern Mocap is, but i would argue that there is little creativity involved when (re)creating such an end product. I think its more often a technical problem. Fixing stuff when the mocap fails, removing errors and such.
I am not wanting to diminish the role of these artists, but i don't see them going very far without good input from an actor and director.
Its still a fuckton of work to do, more than the actor does.

Andy Serkis has to be about bored stiff dressing up in crazy costumes attached to computers and having lasers shot at his face all day while he pretends to be a monkey. At least they let him off his leash in Ultron. I suppose he makes good money but damn, what a tedious way to make a living.
>>

>IM ACTING *SNIFF* *SNORT*

Wow, that's really fucking bad. Is this what acting is now? Lots of snot and spit everywhere? Christ I could out act anyone in hollywood.
>>
>>84462674
Why did they get a black guy to wear the costume?
>>
>>84464425
We wuz jarjar n shieet nigga
>>
>>84464262
there are about 2000 jobs which are even more tedious even dangerous while the pay is fucking bad.
He is living the dream compared to others.

>having to handpaint out every andy serksis in mocap in every lotr frame with gollum interacting with other characters

torture
>>
>>84460336
he's the only one autistic enough to crawl around in spandex all day pretending to be a crab or whatever
>>
>>84463686
Even in video games you have to tweak mocap data before you have something usable.
>>
>>84460336
Itt: a literal autist can't detect good acting so assumes body movement is the only reason he's so employable
